Morrissey interview in the 'Legends' issue of 'Loaded' (Feb. 2013), out tomorrow

So, Moz 'nearly' voted for UKIP. I can understand people disagreeing with his choice of politics (I don't agree with a lot of them myself), but why are people acting all suprised and getting their knickers in a twist now?
Morrissey has been consistently conservative (with a small C) and anti-immigration for years - all the way back to the days of the Smiths.
Have people really been in denial all these years?

Saw in the interview that not only is Morrissey a stupid MSNBC fan, but he'd actually vote for Democratic Party shill Rachel Maddow to be President. Funny he thinks that that smug propagandist has "wit". Morrissey has lost it. Well, thankfully he can't vote in U.S. elections. Didn't make it through the whole interview. He obsessed on celebrity chefs too much, which no one else gives a shit about. Very silly man. If he wanted to prove what a good person he was he probably shouldn't have tried to screw his former bandmates out of money he owed them. Defining moment there that rather discredits his claims about himself.

Not sure what's going on with Morrissey's music these days. Why was he interviewed?

Well that's quite an interview. He seems quite confused. It's the type of thing you hear from the pissed bloke in the pub or maybe Alf Garnett after a stroke.

Part Nationalist, part Socialist, including a desire for a strong Germany.

Whatever must Victoria Wood have thought? She probably slunk off to write a song about queuing for half a dozens cobs when her knicker elastic snapped. Again.

Haha, brilliant.

Maybe that's what's wrong with the old guard - we're constantly being let down, but never able to let go.

This is a really good point. We are desperate for him to recapture his heyday, knowing really that it isn't possible.

A lot of good points made here. I find Morrissey's political ramblings by far the very least interesting thing about him.

And then, suddenly, you are reminded of what a genius he can be...

Exactly that , you old fogeys !

Or , rather, I was lucky enough to discover Moz post-Smiths. I was lucky enough to stumble upon the magical trifecta of "Beethoven" , "Vauxhall" & "Southpaw" ... it was as though every time I turned around , that crazy freak was pumping out another uber-album ...

I suppose that's it - it wasn't so long ago , hence I'm not disappointed yet ( unlike you grizzled veterans .. ;) )

I guess we become fogeys at different rates. I came on during the same glorious trifecta and I would say I've been serially disappointed since 2004. But I guess I have a problem because I stick around - "my only mistake is..." et al, et al.

One day soon someone here might tell us that a new Morrissey album is better than Vauxhall & I and we will probably agree they are literally mad. That's how it works.

I loved Quarry, and would put it amongst his greatest solo stuff, but it's been thin gruel since then, I'm afraid.

Umm ... we might have to plan a fist-fight in a back-alleyway ... because , as much as I like "Vauxhall" , I love "Years Of Refusal" ...

Ok , I didn't see that last post , so here's where it gets worse ... I HATED " Quarry" ! "Camden" reminded me of Mary Poppins ... "You Know I Couldn't..." reminded me of a subpoena ... it was the only Morrissey album I downloaded rather than buying ... because I HATE IT ...

My thoughts exactly, Morrissey's never been uber liberal when it comes to immigration, national identity and the current state of the country, it's not racist it's just plain fact that there are millions more foreign immigrants in England now then there was in the 50's and 60's when Morrissey was a kid in the north. And I don't disagree with his stance on the matter.

At heart Morrissey has a good head on his shoulders and supports the working class Brit, his message seems somewhat lost though by the fact that he's drinking expensive red wine in a posh hotel in Knightsbridge, the only bit which I thought was a bit ridiculous was when he got someone to salt his chips. Thankfully he's not wandered into Bono territory (yet!)

I suppose that's where us neo-fogeys have to differ ...:)

Hasn't Morrissey been trying to make people nervous about liking him since the days of the Smiths? I was sick for a fortnight and re-read every word on The Arcane Old Wardrobe, that's certainly the impression that I got. I've been a fan for a very long time and can't ever remember a glorious past period when he didn't sound angry or barking mad at least a bit of the time. He's still funny, his humour's always been his saving grace. At least he's not back to slandering the Chinese, all nearly-two-billion of them.

Re: Article: Morrissey interview in the 'Legends' issue of 'Loaded' (Feb. 2013), out

Yeah - he's always been this way in interviews. I think the trouble is, when he was younger and in the Smiths it seemed amusingly arch, and his working-class background was still in reach. Now he's older, the words haven't really changed, but he seems like a moaning old man living in an ivory tower thanks to his decades of wealth induced isolation. Most people tend to turn into caricatures of themselves as they reach a certain age, and this seems to have happenned to Morrissey.

Where were the mentions of Accrington and Haslingden then?

Re: Article: Morrissey interview in the 'Legends' issue of 'Loaded' (Feb. 2013), out

This is not an interview - not even a pretence of one, since there are no questions and no discussion. Morrissey got drunk, starting ranting about politics, and some idiot was too starstruck to care and typed up the results without a second thought. It reads like a sermon from Old Uncle Albert after a few too many gin and tonics....which sadly enough, is exactly what it is. I thought after half a page or so that the political spitting and snivelling would stop, but to waste a full article on it? Ridiculous, even for a magazine as worthless as 'Loaded'.

This does come across as a bizarre rant. My theory is that he's broken with his UK policy of email-only interviews on the condition that journalists print everything he says in chronological order to prevent an NME style stitch-up, and this is the result. The problem is, it makes him long virtually as foolish.
