Agreed Gordy, a great time to be growing up, most people my age were in their tribes, tho the skinheads mostly tended to be into 2-tone and the sixties ska bands. You had bands like Sham and the Angelic Upstarts etc who absolutely rallied against the racism which was later associated with the oi bands. I think people who are now in their 50s were very lucky to be teenagers back in the day.
Listening to the charts at school to see if Numan was higher in the charts than the Specials. These things were very important to a 12 year old.

I agree too, round here quite a few people were into Northern Soul, they used to go to Wigan Casino every weekend.

Northern soul is a music and dance movement that emerged in Northern England and the Midlands in the early 1970s. It developed from the British mod scene, based on a particular style of Black American soul music with a heavy beat and fast tempo (100 bpm and above).

There was always a part of our school discos reserved specially for Northern Soul Surface, wonderful, uplifting music that would fill the floor, whether it was an obscure oldie or Billy Oceans Love Really Hurts Without You. Happy days

yeah totally agree dan,the charts actually meant something in those days.such a simple time,having to go to a phone box to ask some female if they fancy going out,bring those days back,think we only have one phone box in my town,i checked one day and its 60 pence to make a phone call,used to be 10 pence for three minutes.

I remember we used to meet mates at the phone box ffs and then stay there for ages phoning people up in a dirty red box that stunk of piss. Great fun.
