Art Hounds warned you about critics like!
This is exactly how i percieve the song, just some people love to throw the sexism card. Im Not A Man- much the same as this those points in that song which is suggesting makes you a man is how some people percieve how a man should be to be a proper man, so he is saying ok then im not a man, not that he is percieving all men to be like those listed. I didn't see the song sexist, it's more against sexism. One thing that does shit me is the whole misogynistic angle some people are playing at with Kick The Bride. Yes that song doesn't paint a pleasant picture of the woman in the story. But there's nothing there suggesting he is talking about all women in all marriages ever. Fact is there are women who go in to marriage with this mind frame. Just as there are men who do the same, and plenty who don't. I personally know a woman who fits the bride in this song perfectly... If I were an artist I could write a song about her which could end up being identical to Kick The Bride, and it's not a stab at women, it's a stab at A woman. There's a world of difference. I think people almost want it to be misogyny so they have something to complain about. Not noticing any such uproar on I'm Not A Man. And this review goes one step further to suggest that Staircase could be misogynistic..how previous some people are. This is the sort of stuff that devalues real misogyny when it comes along.

Women generally don't come off very well in Morrissey's songs. I'd say he probably does have some deep issues with them.
Or he has issues with people regardless of their gender. "Julie In The Weeds" is a complimentary song. "I'm Not A Man" criticises a certain type of male. You're looking at it a bit simplistically.
Probably, yes, you're right - certainly Morrissey does seem pathetically, tiresomely misanthropic these days.
Maybe he always was, but perhaps in the old days he just kept it in check and wrote better songs? Can't imagine The Smiths or early solo Moz sanctioning a song as godawful as 'Kick The Bride Down The Aisle'.....

Have you only just discovered Morrissey?
Haven't you heard "Golden Lights"?
Is it just me or is "Kick the Bride" not about a particular woman who recently
departed company quite acrimoniously with Morrissey?
