Morrissey Central Sky Sports apologise after libellous comment about Morrissey is aired during Sunday Supplement live broadcast - London Evening Standard

Geoff Shreeves was forced to apologise on behalf of Sky Sports after a libellous comment about Morrissey was aired during the live broadcast of Sunday Supplement.

Excerpt:

With presenter Shreeves and his four-man panel of reporters live streaming from home, the comment was heard at the start of the show.

A conversation was heard between members of the panel, before a libellous comment about the iconic frontman of The Smiths was heard.

The show continued, but following its first advertisement break, Shreeves apologised for the comments made by the Telegraph’s chief football writer, Sam Wallace.

Shreeves said: "At the start of this of this program a brief private conversation was unintentionally broadcast. It was not meant for broadcast and any conversation does not reflect the views of Sky Sports."

Sky Sports have been forced to apologise after comments made by one of the guests on their Sunday Supplement show accidentally made the air.

The guest appeared to say "Morrissey's been cancelled hasn't he as he's basically turned out to be a racist", before host Geoff Shreeves swiftly let them know the broadcast had already begun.

YOUR LOSS JEW BOY
has anybody ever seen this email,no didn't think so,he said he was shaking with disgust when he read it well get it on here so we can all have a look.made up balls.

As someone else mentioned, slander has to lead to reputational or material damage and as the pitifully low sales of Dog On A Chain were months ago, clearly that damage is done.
(Also, if you or your representative shares the slander, you can't claim it's damaged your reputation)

And besides, if it's not Jeff Selling who cares?

Why would he have a black singer doing backing vocals on his new album if he was racist?

All he has to do is go back on the showbiz media circuit - which he's avoiding because I think he is genuinely socially anxious & hates it. But he's STILL managing to cause a fuss without it. Which is remarkable.
What are you on about?

wonder how they got on the subject of Morrissey anyway, its not as if somebody could say I was at an M concert last night, was probs M going to the shops for a loaf.

They don't just cancel the person, they try to cancel anyone who refuses to cancel the person. And for a while everyone was too scared of being next to pushback.
Again I'll ask what are you on about, I am struggling to understand your points, you seem to start making some sort of comment then cut off before fully explaining yourself???

Well indeed. Firstly it would not be libel, it would be slander. And if he wants to take these people to court for airing these views publicly, I say let him get on with it. He wouldn't have a leg to stand on, there's an awful lot of corroborating material out there, not least Fat Gay Vegan's excellent collected evidence. It would be amusing to watch.
Yes also Morrissey is a great advocate of folk being able to express their opinion freely.

What are you on about?

Moz's career.

If he talked to the media & went to events it would help.

But even though he doesn't talk to the media or go to events, he still ends up in the media.

Oh, it was about cancel culture. It's best to know nothing about it.

"Talked to the media and went to events." Listen to this low-level PR scrub. Morrissey has nothing interesting left to say. He's been doing safe, wimpy, pre-approved-question email interviews for years now. It's not that he "doesn't play the game" like some sort of iconoclast renegade, it's that he hasn't written a good song in about 15 years and can't seem to generate press unless he's being an asshole.

Well he's been involved in the music business since 1982 and been in the media since then so it's no great surprise. He'd also written a couple of fan books about The New York Dolls & James Dean before that so he's no stranger to fame, fame fatal fame.
Morrissey is his own man and he does socialise with his own circle of family & friends, I doubt he can be arsed with industry type events and who can blame him.

They've got space & airtime to fill. It's not a lecture tour. He could talk about cats.
