Morrissey’s influence and music legacy is irrefutable. Widely regarded as one of the most influential figures in British pop, as well as one of the greatest lyricists of his generation, Morrissey has thirteen solo studio albums, a string of No.1 records, and an Ivor Novello Award for Outstanding Contribution to British Music.

As lead singer of The Smiths he marked forever the history of music with only four albums. As a soloist he has consolidated a sound that still reverberates today with his forthcoming album Bonfire of Teenagers. An explicit declaration of love for music has made him one of the most acclaimed voices of the last four decades worldwide. When the debut single from The Smiths, “Hand In Glove,” first emerged 40 years ago, the musical landscape was forever changed and launched a rich catalogue of songs that includes anthems such as “This Charming Man,” “How Soon Is Now?,” “There Is A Light That Never Goes Out,” “Suedehead,” “Everyday Is Like Sunday,” “Irish Blood, English Heart,” “First of the Gang to Die,” and many many more. The celebration of Morrisey’s music and influence on culture have resonated with fans worldwide for over 40 years.

Morrissey’s Autobiography published in 2013 by Penguin Classics spent six weeks at the number 1 sales spot, plus five weeks at number 2. It was the second fastest-selling autobiography in British history. His first two nights at the Hollywood Bowl broke the Beatles record for sell-out speed. In 2006, Morrissey was voted the second greatest living British icon by viewers of the BBC, coming second to Sir David Attenborough, with Sir Paul McCartney in third place. In 2007, Morrissey was voted the greatest living northern male in the Manchester Evening News. Morrissey has had 24 top ten albums in England: nine with The Smiths, fifteen as a solo artist. His California Son (released 2019) reached number 7 on the U.S. Billboard chart, and his Low In High School (released 2017) reached number 10 on the U.S. Billboard chart. Morrissey has had seven top 20 albums in the U.S.A.

I’m personally less inclined now, to travel and take the risk, but you should seize the opportunity.

I had chances to see Little Richard and Link Wray, and thought I’d catch them the next time—but that next opportunity never came. I came to regret my relaxed attitude to gigs.
I'm now pretty much for always go for it, at least once, if you can make it. There was a band, I sooo wanted to see and they came to my town every November for 2, 3 years in a row. This one time I wanted to go, but was not feeling well and didn't go, because I thought, ah I catch them next year. Literally a few weeks later, when I was in hospital, the singer died (why, Lemmy 😪?!) and that was it. I regret that to this day. So now I never take chances anymore and the most gamble and effort I ever took to see someone was indeed for Morrissey. I couldn't for the world of me have passed this chance and I'm so glad I did (and he showed up), it was amazing.

I agree. There is a German band who never play the northern UK much. The last time they played here was 8 years ago so I'm going to buy a ticket so I don't have to wait another 8 years. It'll involve lots of travelling but it'll be worth it. Plus, everyone is getting older and most bands I adore feature people in their sixties and seventies and we all know what that means. I also do as much traveling for M and a few other bands. It's definitely worth it.

Do you mind me asking, privilege, which German band it is?

Why does this guy look familiar to me? Has he been on a reality TV show or something? Anyone else get that vibe. This is now annoying me.

He has a young George Clooney vibe.
What he needs to do is forget about touring. That's not necessary and it only wears him out. He needs to have a good relationship with his new manager. Try and pretend that the last few years haven't happened. Forget about what people expect of him and get in that goddam studio and do what he does best. He needs a new friend He needs a strong manager. I don't think he's a lost cause. He's like the rest of us. Someone must take him in hand and reinvigorate him.
Has anyone warned Pete Galli of the head-wreck he faces on here, a site so prominent in the public space? How can he take this menagerie in hand and not get sidelined by hardened fans, and soured by ex-fans with boulders on their shoulders and a singular commitment to flood vitriol on everything Morrissey does? Are people willing to give Ally Galli a chance?

Yes…. This was a great time Ash, when this single was released, 2018, I think.
It was all over British radio 2.
Loads of air play, don’t always believe our
Mozz 😉
Alas it never was a big hit.

It’s a great looking thing tho, ain’t she.

2017, autumn. And it was a big airplay hit (for Morrissey - possibly his biggest ever) but that's all you need to shift albums.
No-one does well in the singles chart these days unless most of their fans are school children glued to streaming sites

Not at all. It's a doom//dark jazz band called Bohren Und Der Club of Gore. Very different to M's music. Most people haven't heard of them. I have listened to them for nearly 20 years and have always wanted to see them live. Plus, the place they're playing is intimate and it looks like a stunning venue.

I think Germany has the best music scene in the world especially Berlin. Not only do some of the best bands spring from there but there are also a lot of great bands from around the world that visit and they have the best festivals for those into dark music and alternative lifestyle, etc. I would love to move to Berlin.
Absolutely fantastic band. Incredible atmosphere and superb LPs - especially Sunset Mission.

Agree on everything you say about Berlin, as well. Easily my favorite city.

Thanks for your reply. I heard of them only very recently, possibly within the last year, but can't say their music was for me: maybe one day it will be. Saying it's very different to M's music is putting it mildly! I didn't think it was going to be einsturzende neubaten, but I was curious to find out who "your" band was. Maybe you'd like Sometimes With Others, The Necks. I won't list loads!
Well, you can't like everything. It's all good. Yeh, maybe it'll grow on you. I have a pretty eclectic taste that veers from one extreme to another sometimes. The only stuff I really can't get away with is rap and hip hop.

I like E. Neubaten and similar artists, too. I love discovering new music so I appreciate recommendations. I had a listen. My first thoughts are that the former isn't for me but I thoroughly enjoyed the latter. Going to listen to more of their stuff so thank you.

It's wonderful to know someone else on here knows and appreciates them! Their musicianship is fantastic. You're right; the atmosphere they create is astonishingly good. Chilled, mellow, ominous. Sunset Mission is incredible but I love most of their releases. Patchouli Blue is rather great too. Berlin is the music city of dreams.

Why has this "new" managment not made it to a Morrissey official post, when in the meantime Sam or whoever is in charge manage to post a bunch of videos?

Did the management company send out a press release about signing Moz or did someone just notice he was on their roster? I was wondering why Moz central wasn't crowing about this.

See SM's post above. Central doesn't seem to run like that.

It does look like M's bio must have just appeared on their list of artists. Maybe a fanfare was avoided just in case it jinxed things. The speculation on here does seem to be positive so maybe not required.

True, but if Carmen Vandenberg put Morrissey on to her manager (which looks to be the case here), then she might be in it for more than just a session job.

Question: does a touring band only get paid per show? Or are they contracted for a whole tour? I assume even if the singer cancels, they still get a per diem for lodging and food. Surely they don't travel on their own dime. So even when Morrissey cancels, it's a free trip to city X or Y. How pissed off could they be?
Can only speak in generalities, but hired hands are paid regardless of whether or not the shows take place or not. They still have to be prepared, so there is work that's been done and they quite rightly should be compensated for that amongst other things.

Personally, while I'd love a paid vacation without the need to provide my services, the artist side of me would be more than frustrated. One would think they would want to play the shows and they enjoy it. Getting paid to do something you love is the best of both worlds. I'd imagine the constant cancelations would get old, regardless of the paycheck. In theory, playing is in their blood and to be that gifted and have no outlet for it, well, how long that can be tolerated depends on the individual and how much it really means to them. It would be hard.
