Glad to see the mayor of Tel Aviv all dressed up for the event and looking like 2 rubles. Looks like he was on the way to the hardware store to pick up plumbing parts.

Re: Article: Morrissey getting the key to the city of Tel-Aviv on Channel 2 News Isra

Nice to see him being a good sport, even when he drops the key :lbf:. He also seems to have lost a lot of weight.

Is this the first time he's actually commented on the Israeli/Palestinian conflict? "There is no point punishing a nation for something the leader does or says"..? I don't believe for one second that he would go and perform in Syria. Also quite morally shady to play in countries where human persecution and killing happens on a daily basis, but he won't go to Canada because they cull seals? PETA must have him by the short-and-curlies.

I made that very comparison yesterday. The Canada embargo just looks plain daft when playing israel.

That shirt/tie combo is just ludicrously awful. Nice of the guy who's presenting him with the key to the city to dress up too, wonder how much that blue polo shirt set him back ;)

Quite enjoyed this little thing, would have prefered a full interview but Morrissey seems to be enjoying himself so all is well.

I like how he claims people shouldn't have to suffer because of their country (I'm paraphrasing), yet we in Canada still pay for the sins of our government. Hypocrisy.

Great point, and great first post.

Assuming you're not a banned troll, welcome to Solo.

I don't understand the point Moz is making in this interview. Surely Israel and Syria are different kettles of fish because one is a democracy and one isn't. Hence, in Israel, the people are, in some way and to whatever extent, responsible for their government's actions whereas in Syria it is much more a case of " the sins of the leader " .

I find it harder to understand his motives and politics these days. It really riles me that he does not play Canada, I got to see him 8 times over 1998-2009 when I lived in Dublin and some time in London (had to also put up with some cancelled gigs). Ive been living in Toronto 3 years now and I really think his motives for boycotting Canada are childish and ill founded. I don't condone the seal killings but there's much worse going on in half the other countries he plays in..do you think he'd boycott the States if it was happening there?...a lot of his actions and comments now are contradictory and sad to say the least while his motives often hang on a dollar.
Its a shame but his star has fallen far in my eyes over the past 5 years. Its not really worth travelling far for gigs that can be cancelled if he gets out of the wrong side of the bed and fall short of 90mins.

Although I am now considering heading to the Niagra gig in a few months to throw some hot dogs onto the stage.

While I am here..why does he have Boz wearing a dress now? I have a lot of respect for Boz and i think he's a great musician and it must have been difficult to stick by Moz for so long..it just seems disrespectful and makes a joke out of the whole band with these clown suits he has them wearing these days. Whats the point?

People have their reasons for doing what they do, we don't always understand them. But if not playing Canada is important to him I respect that. But throwing hot dogs at him at his gig seems truly pointless.

It's awfully hot and humid in Israel in the summer and it's murder to dress in suits in this heat, without getting intimate with an air conditioner.
The mayor is originally from a kibbutz and has no real sense of fashion. You should hear him play the flute.
The mayor is also unpopular at the moment. Don't punish us for what our mayor wears. :)

Hasbara! Morrissey should be ashamed of himself. Not only playing in Israel but also accepting the key to the city of Tel-Aviv. But he obviously only cares about animal rights. Let the people of Palestine suffer!

There's no "People of Palestine". They have no distinct language, culture or heritage, they are simply Arabs. My grandparents came here from Nazi Germany and were also called "Palestinians".
Palestine wasn't a country, but a territory which was under a British mandate. A partition plan was made by the UN, which the Arabs rejected and started a war, which they lost. Germany lost the Sudetenland and half of the now Polish territories after losing the 2nd World War and was partitioned and occupied for 50 years by the US and Soviets. That's what happens to those who start a war and lose. All the Germans were forcefully removed and thrown out of the Sudetenland and Polish territories, but here in Israel we have 1.5 million or more Arab citizens, which should have been theoretically thrown out as well.
If at all the West Bank should be given to Jordan, which briefly occupied it before the war.
The Palestinians are "suffering" because they time after time were offered an independent state and rejected the offer and chose violence. They simply want the State of Israel destroyed, that's more important to them than having independence. More Israelis died in wars and terrorist attacks on civilians in the last 60 years, than Palestinians under the nonexistent "occupation". You only need to look at what goes on in Libya, Syria and Egypt to see how well off the Arabs living in Israel and the West Bank are, enjoying health, prosperity and modernization. There were perhaps half a million Arabs in the West Bank after the war, now there are over a couple of millions, if they're dying in such an alarming rate, how did they manage to quadruple? and why don't the 20 odd Arab states that occupy half a continent don't allow them in? and how can they still be refugees 60 years on? it's the only place in the world where refugee status is passed along throw the generations. Madness, that's what it is.

I am not trying to be an asshole when I say this, I really am not, but do you go to concerts for the fashion or the music? Why does it matter what the bands wears? Isn't it all about THOSE songs, THOSE lyrics, THAT voice?

Anyway... I thought Morrissey was adorable in that video, especially when he dropped the key. And I really get a kick out of watching everyone get all riled up every single time Morrissey says or does a thing. Very entertaining indeed.

I'm not sure what comments you are responding to. You seem upset that the Palestinian population is growing. What is happening to the Palestinian people is apartheid. I have friends whose job is to escort Palestinian kids to schools and observe the check points. The Israeli army are brutal, they have destroyed the lives of these innocent people by changing the border lines to hem people into smaller areas and prevent them from reaching agricultural land, they throw people out of their homes so they can occupy them in order to store armaments and use them as look out points, they manhandle the people and arrest them without charge. What about 'Al Nakbah'. At least bring some balance to your argument. Morrissey is an innocent abroad when it comes to these things, he should visit the west bank and talk to the people.
