Besides Moz and The Smiths, what have you all been listening to lately?

Re: Yes !!! "Give him a ball (and a yard of grass)"

Heh heh. Yes, the singer was a Nottingham Forest fan and 'Give Him A Ball' was apparently about Nigel Clough.

The Lion in Love wants to know the lyrics to "We Love It When Our Friends Become Disabled", but having never heard it, I cannot oblige. Do you know them?

Re: 'Casual Sex in the Cineplex'

Oh my dear Bluenose, how i miss those days.....oh to be a "stupid kid" again.
The Bridewell Taxis (later just the bridewells) i loved too, guess it helped coming from Leeds anyway.
"Honesty" i remember being played on the old Chart Show without it being ffwd on, a rarity, as it always did through the track you wanted to hear and see and played the obvious Mock Turtle song instead.
Don't suppose you have the Bridwells "invisible to you" album? i'd love a copy again as somebody borrowed and never gave back, b*stards!

take care.

No, sorry, I've never heard it either.

"Honesty looks good on you, looks so bad on me"

Yes, I tutted many a time at The Chart Show when seeing the video for 'Step On' for the umpteenth time when they could have played something like 'God Knows It's True' (I love early TFC too). Mind you, as it was before the days of satellite telly, it was the only way I'd see an indie video in the first place, 2 seconds or otherwise.

I do indeed have 'Invisible To You', so drop me a line with your address and I'll copy it for you. I have it on tape, so I can only copy it on to tape, if that's OK.

It sound like 'It's the end of the world' with different words. Poor song Tingle! I expected something cultish from you!

Nice one Bluey.. 'Where's Me jumper' is a celebration of all things indie disco and stupid.. I love it..'Dancing at the disco bumper to bumper..'! go go go

Bridewells had that classic song 'Spirit' or something didn't they? Hmm, that era reminds me of another of my indie 'cred' moments as well.. and I don't suppose anyone remembers them, but I used to lunch at Natwest with a group of blokes.. we called ourself the 'lonely lunch wank club' and one day I was talking to this guy Chris O'donnell and he say's 'yeah I play bass' and it only turns out he was the bass player in 'My Jealous God'.. it put my guitar aspirations at that time in sharp focus! Anyway, My Jealous God had at least one good tune in 'Pray'.. classic baggy indie. I bet TMF remembers 'em at least!

Anyway, might have to dig out a 'Ping' CD if their as funny as HMHB..

Earth calling.. earth calling... earth calling...

Ahh Dumbles.. meant to mention I have two Church tracks in the car at the moment.. just to feed back to you.. Impression is that it's real spirit of the 80's indie retro and certainly swathed with a 'House Of Love' feel.

Not bad.. very listenable... but only a 7/10!!

Now Space Ritual.. One of the great live albums.. and I would list my other live favourites, but they're all heavy and I'll get slaughtered here (again) but let's just toss 'Made In Japan' into the mix.. a live gem.

In the tenth second of forever..

Oh aye. Baggy chancers, they were dismissed as. I once saw them live at Blackpool Jenks club in 1990. All I remember is lots of wah-wah and some flashing lights on stage.

Sultans of Ping. Very silly. I saw them live a couple of times, including a memorable gig at the Boardwalk in Manchester, where I fondled the singer's leg. Ahem.

Re: Obscure indie again!

I recall My Jealous God with clarity. Although, it has to be said, my favourite is 'Everything About You'.

I found this particular song on 12" over a year ago. I was so pleased, I held it aloft for my co-shopper (who was getting a bit bored by the 11th rack of records I was looking through) to see. I think she was expecting me to have found 'God Save The Queen' on A&M or something. Her face dropped and she looked at me sympathetically. I don't think she appreciated my obscure find.

Hey magic.. here are three other forgotten classics of indie..

Faith Over Reason - 'Billy Blue'
Railway Children - 'A Gentle Sound' (supported the Smiths at Brixton in 86)
Bodines - Skankin Queen

Any of these ring any bells? I've actually been hunting the fisrt track down for 20 years.. and so sure, found it on this website.. and ordered it today.. vinyl only (see Bluey, i can adapt)

http://www.musicstack.com/

It's a source of the most obscure.. and of useful reference

Thanks Bluey (I'm in work covering one of my marvellous programs tbnight).. it amazes me of how the obscure are actually known.. Chris (the bass player) was a really nice quiet bloke.. (like me) and his cousin wrote all the songs for MJG apparrently. However Chris got disillusioned with playing when they got noweher and left.. He married an American girl and lives in Florida now.. (I email him occassionally) the lucky ba*stard!

Still, if my band ever gig (spring 2004 I reckon) I'll have to get a Moz solo contigent down.. I'd love to see what Pat would say about our Buzzcocks, pistols, ramones, clash etc etc covers!

You mean that fake photo under the user 'Dumbles' isn't Dumbledore?
I thought it was.
C'mon Dumbledore, I'd like to see you also.

And what do I get in return if I do this?
Actually, I was talking to my friend today about a fantasy I've had lately about being filmed using the sybian and putting it up for people to download if they want. That fantasy gets me sooo hot. I don't know if I have the nerve to actually do this, though!
A picture? For you, Weiß, of course. But give me a few weeks. I'm driving up to New England tomorrow to see if I can find a place to live, and with any luck I'll be moving soon! Hopefully, I'll have pictures to post of me in my new digs soon.

Dumbles is dead, George. Dead, dead, dead.

Do Not Panic!

"If you are making love it is imperative to bring all bodies to orgasm
simultaeneously
Do not waste time blocking your ears.
Do not waste time seeking a soundproof shelter.
Try to get as far away from the sonic source as possible,
but do not panic..."

I'm glad you downloaded the songs, Ruff. I love them. I listen to them over and over and over again...but I'm like that. Repetitive and boring.

I'm not much for Deep Purple myself, but I would never knock someone else's musical loves. Well, not to their face, anyway.

So glad to hear that you can appreciate Space Ritual. Not enough people do.

Re: Sun Day

Sorry to have disappointed you there Ruffian. However, I have also been listening to "Beth's Electric Birthday" by ColvinQuarmby. Suitably obscure? Favourite Tracks are "Nobody" and "The Girl Who Liked Penguins". Happily, they are playing my local music venue [Half Moon @ Putney] this Sunday. Makes a change from The Rolling Stoned and Utter Madness tribute bands etc etc that usually play there. Morrissey once said that he enjoyed a song by Gerry Colvin's earlier band "Terry & Gerry", & that's justification enough for me.

Oh great stuff. You bring back some memories here. And the sentiments ae absolutely spot on as wqell.. nothing like a simultaneous O. It's 'Sonic Attack' isn't it?

I'll tell you the titles.. Nothing wrong with repitition as long it stimulates..

Haha.. Don't get me wrong, not a massive Purple head myself (haha.. that is so good innuendo!).. I just feel the energy in that live album. 'Highway Star' for example..
