Marianne Faithfull was interviewed by Andrew Marr on the AM Show this morning on BBC1 - he asked her about 'turning down Morrissey' and she said he had called her up when they were both living in Ireland. She was quite vague but it seemed it was for a joint interview but having writing commitments at the time she said she couldn't be bothered to go to Dublin, and said no.

Yours Faithfully - BBC News video

Former teenage star, ex-girlfriend of Mick Jagger and "nicotine contralto" Marianne Faithfull has spoken about the highs and lows of her life.

On the BBC's Andrew Marr show, she said her comeback collaborations with artists like Jarvis Cocker and Nick Cave were "great fun", and explained the truth behind the rumour that she turned down Morrissey.

I was looking at Zack Snyder's directing credits (Watchmen and 300), and it turns out he's listed on the ¡Oye Esteban! DVD as directing Mozzer's "Tomorrow" video. No word if Morrissey is really a graphic novel in disguise.

BBC4 will devote this forthcoming Friday, the 13th of March, to Rough Trade Records.
At 9:00p.m. there is a 90 minute documentary charting the history of Rough Trade, followed by 'Rough Trade At The BBC', a 60 minute show featuring performances of Rough Trade artists from the BBC archive.
Both shows are then repeated after midnight.

The Smiths are definitely featured in the '...At The BBC' show, and given that at one time The Smiths WERE Rough Trade records, they will almost certainly be extensively covered in the main show.

One can only hope for new interviews and footage.

The Eye: Ryan McGinley - dcexaminer.com
By Chris Klimek

Excerpt:

What I want to tell you about this picture: This is a self-portrait of Ryan being tackled onstage by a security guard at a Morrissey concert in 2004. To the right is Morrissey, mic in hand, performing.

I love this picture for the boldness of its scale and for its extraordinary tonality. I feel transported by this picture to this place. I can hear the noise of the crowd and the music. I think there’s an intimate connection McGinley achieves in this portrait between the subject and the viewer of the image.

Just been reading about this new Siouxsie boxset of sessions and concerts

Anyway, the announcer for the 1988 Royal Albert Hall gig that was recorded and broadcast on Radio 1 said that on guitar was Mr Johnny Marr!

This also supports it.

Anyway, if this is true then Johnny Marr's brief time as a Banshees guitarist is to be released commercially and digitally remastered!
