Morrissey invited to pitch for Eurovision - The Independent

Excerpt:

(...)But it appears the BBC Eurovision production team may have mistaken irony for enthusiasm. A spokeswoman for Sanctuary, Morrissey's record company, said that while they have not had a definitive "no" from the singer, the idea appeared to be, "a non-starter". She added: "He has certainly had an invitation, but we think it is unlikely he will be taking this forward."

The BBC refused to shed further light, saying that matters were at an "early discussion stage" and stressing that Morrissey was only one of several artists and record companies who had been approached.

I found this on the BBC website, some "funny" chap has recorded Moz's eurovision entry already:

It is being rumoured that former Smiths front man Morrissey may write the UK's entry for this year's Eurovision Song contest.

The Today programme decided to find out what such a tune may sound like - with a little help from Richard Webb.

Now, the blurb does say this is an unofficial list, so no one get too excited just yet.

SXSW Rumor Mill: SXSW Hides (160) Band List, But We're Here To Help - Austinist

...To help ease the sting, we've sifted through MySpace, Done Waiting, the Yahoo! SXSW Group, lots of music blogs, and Pollstar to compile an initial list of acts either confirmed or very likely to attend. We'd like to emphasize that this list is not official, and that bands drop out of SXSW all the time, so don't take this as gospel. That said, there's a good chance you'll see 98% of these bands at SXSW 2007

Because "The Smiths" came out in 1983, The Smiths will first be eligible for the Rock and Hall of Fame 25 years later, in 2008, for the induction ceremony which will follow in March, 2009. According to the unofficial Hall of Fame tracking site, Future Rock Hall, The Smiths are predicted to be the top contenders for induction in their first year of eligibility, at a 69% chance (followed by Run DMC at 61% and Stevie Ray Vaughn at 51%). Morrissey as a solo artist is ranked very well also (for 2013/2014) at 51%.

I don’t know if you’re all aware of this, but we’re carrying out an experiment over on the message boards.

We’re going to attempt to download a Smiths or Morrissey song, which we all love and thought should have been released as a single, into the official UK top 40 (original thread). It could work because of the new downloading rule which allows any song old or new, single or album track to be included into the top 40.

There’s a poll going on at the moment to decide the song. The poll will end on Saturday the 20th of January.

After the choice has been made a date to start the experiment will be decided.

For this to work we need as much fans to get involved as possible so please vote and take part.

This is a great opportunity for us to come together as fans and create a little bit of history.

Thank you
