Morrissey in talks for Eurovision - BBC News

Former Smiths singer Morrissey could represent the UK at the 2007 Eurovision Song Contest, the BBC has confirmed.
The Mancunian musician first expressed an interest in taking part after Daz Sampson's song, Teenage Life, came fifth from last in the 2006 contest.

"I was horrified but not surprised to see the UK fail," he said. "Why didn't they ask me?"

The BBC says it is in talks with the singer to write and possibly perform a track for this year's contest in May.

I was quite pleased when I read the reports this morning about Morrissey in negotiations to write the Eurovision song contest tune!

"British singer MORRISSEY is in talks to write the UK entry for the Eurovision Song Contest later this year (07).
The former SMITHS frontman is a fan of the critically-panned competition.
A BBC spokesman says, "I can confirm we are in talks with Morrissey about a Eurovision song." Last year (06), Morrissey expressed his disgust at the UK's song, performed by DAZ SAMPSON.
He said, "I was horrified but not surprised to see the UK fail again.
"There's a question I keep asking myself - why didn't they ask me? That keeps going round my head."

Morrissey To Play Three LA-Area Shows - Filter
by Staff | 01.08.2007

Morrissey has announced his first shows of 2007 and Los Angeles-area fans are in luck. Moz will play three nights at Pasadena Civic Auditorium on February 1st, 2nd and 3rd. Tickets will go on-sale at 10am Saturday January 13th via Ticketmaster. Moz's backing band at these shows will be: Boz Boorer (guitar), Jesse Tobias (guitar), Solomon Walker (bass), Matt Walker (drums) and Vincent Jones (keyboards.)

The lineup means the departure of bassist Gary Day and keyboardist Mike Farrell. This will be the first time that Solomon Walker (who is drummer Matt's brother) and Vincent Jones have ever played with Moz. Jones is a Canadian session musician who has played with artists such as Dave Gahan and Bruce McCulloch. While Solomon was a member of Year Of The Rabbit and has played with the likes of James Iha and Veruca Salt.

Morrissey has yet to do a full tour in support of his latest album, 2006's Ringleader of The Tormentors. Support at all three dates will come from Kristeen Young.

It was way back in August that we last made our way down there, so we're going to make this trip count. We'll be joined by local rockabilly outfit The Border Hoppin' Boys, and it's sure to be a long night of celebrating the songs that saved our lives. Come and get warmed up for the upcoming Morrissey gigs in Pasadena!
