‘RINGLEADER OF THE TORMENTORS’ – THE ULTIMATE GUIDE

Exclusive! Everything you need to know about the new Morrissey album.

Morrissey has completed his new album ‘Ringleader Of The Tormentors’ and NME is first with the full track-by-track guide. As we revealed in last month’s exclusive in-the-studio report, the album will now be released on April 3rd. Recorded in Rome with producer Tony Visconti, it shows a change in direction and features a guest appearance from legendary film soundtrack composer Ennio Morricone.

“I’m inspired by Rome because it’s the exact opposite to Los Angeles, where I’ve spent so much time,” Morrissey said recently. “As stunningly beautiful as Los Angeles is, it is also essentially a police state. Rome has struck me as being a very safe city, and not at all uptight, which is a contrasting relief.”

Here, NME’s guide to the album. A single, ‘You Have Killed Me’, will precede the release on March 27th.

Victoria lines up legend Morrissey - Halifax Today

MUSIC legend Morrissey – of cult 80s band The Smiths – looks set play a surprise date in Halifax.

But fans of the Manchester singer will have to wait before they can buy tickets as The Victoria Theatre is still waiting to sign the contract for the May 10 gig.

But this hasn't stopped fans trying to grab their places at the concert, as music magazines have already listed the gig as happening. Chris Murgatroyd, marketing manager of the Victoria Theatre, said: "All I can say is that a date has been pencilled in and we are in very advanced negotiations.

"But until the contracts are exchanged we can't confirm that it will happen. But we expect confirmation very quickly.

"It'll be a great date for the theatre, and we should know if it's happening within 10 days."

Although the gig has not yet been officially confirmed, the concert looks set to form part of a 30-date tour to follow the March release of Morrissey's new album, The Ringleader Of The Tormentors.

Other tour venues include Manchester, London and Glasgow.

The Victoria is also in talks to sign up comedian Jo Brand for a show on April 26.

Morrissey announces Whitehaven gig - The Whitehaven News

Excerpt:

The venue confirmed it was the icon himself who asked to play in Whitehaven. Paul Tomlinson, from the Civic Hall, said the news was “unbelievable”.

Concert promoter SJM had contacted Paul to pencil in a possible date. “They said that they had booked Morrissey to play in Middlesbrough Town Hall on that night but he had said he wanted to come to Whitehaven Civic Hall,” said Paul.

The venue has been attracting some top name acts recently such as Echo and the Bunnymen, Super Furry Animals and Lloyd Cole, and Paul presumes this impressive line-up had helped secure the gig.

“It’s the biggest thing for the Civic Hall in a long time. I think that you would be hard pushed to find a similar venue of our size to attract the names that we have.”

In an interview in this week's Denver weekly, Westword, New Order bass player Peter Hook calls Morrissey a "twat":

...."It's funny," he adds, "I was doing a gig in Leicester last week, and this American guy came up to me. He obviously wasn't a New Order fan and didn't know who I was. He said, 'Hey, man, play some Smiths.' I said, 'No.' He said, 'Why not?' And I said, 'Because I fucking hate Morrissey. He's a twat.' The guy was floored; he literally almost fell over. He's used to DJs saying, 'Sure, man, I'll put it on in a bit.' But you might as well be honest, right?"

Article by Tom Matthews:

Former Smiths frontman Morrissey is to play at King's Lynn Corn Exchange on Saturday May 27.

The venue will be one of the smallest in a 29-date tour announced yesterday. The tour takes in three nights in Morrissey's hometown of Manchester and three nights at the London Palladium.

King's Lynn Corn Exchange marketing assistant Duncan Ashwell said: “The amount of interest we have already has is amazing.

"The box office has been inundated, but at the moment, literally all we know is that he is coming here.”

The star is plugging his new solo-album Ringleader of the Tormentors, due to be released on April 3.

'Soon' pitch has future with Uni

Universal Pictures is asking "How Soon Is Now?" Picking up the comedy pitch from Jason Major and Patrick T. Gorman, the creators of the hit stage show "The Star Wars Trilogy in 30 Minutes." Universal-based Scott Stuber and Mary Parent are producing. The story follows a man named Tom McGregor who travels back in time to his high school days in 1985. There he tries to fix the worst three days of his life in order to give himself a better future. Major and Gorman will begin writing the screenplay immediately. Gorman and Major wrote and were among the performers in "The Star Wars Trilogy in 30 Minutes," which ran for more than a year at the Coronet Theater in Los Angeles. The show, which garnered rave reviews, was the only George Lucas-approved "Star Wars" theater production. This is the first sale for the duo, who first met in UCLA's theater department and are repped by WMA and Principato-Young.
