Morrissey announces Whitehaven gig - The Whitehaven News Excerpt: The venue confirmed it was the icon himself who asked to play in Whitehaven. Paul Tomlinson, from the Civic Hall, said the news was “unbelievable”. Concert promoter SJM had contacted Paul to pencil in a possible date. “They said that they had booked Morrissey to play in Middlesbrough Town Hall on that night but he had said he wanted to come to Whitehaven Civic Hall,” said Paul. The venue has been attracting some top name acts recently such as Echo and the Bunnymen, Super Furry Animals and Lloyd Cole, and Paul presumes this impressive line-up had helped secure the gig. “It’s the biggest thing for the Civic Hall in a long time. I think that you would be hard pushed to find a similar venue of our size to attract the names that we have.”
