Saw the mention of the Benicàssim festival's detailed side of the cancellation by Lucy on the general board (link):

FIB Heineken's version of Morrissey's cancellation (English)

Nota de prensa FIB Heineken cancelación Morrissey (Spanish)

Excerpt:

Ana Sanabia inmediately calls Jed Weitzman who then said: " I am here, beside a very ill man. I have had to call an ambulance", but he declines to specify the concrete reasons why he is feeling so sick at the same time he insists that Morrissey is very ill and that there is just no way of making him enter the plane so the performance has to be called off.

Ana Sanabia then let the organization know that Morrissey was finally cancelling, to what the organization asks: "what if he performs tomorrow?", though the artist´s agency had never considered the latter as an option-. Ana Sanabia then phones Jed Weitzman again to offer him to perform on Sunday and the artist accepts but asks for an extra 60.000 € to be added to the already accepted fee. The organization refused to pay that sum and Jed then remained in a stand-by state, waiting for "something" to be offered to the artist so that they start (or not) preparing things for Sunday. At the same time this happens, Gary Trew had been checking out the times set for the Escenario Verde on Sunday and decided that they would choose Franz Ferdinand´s slot. With this new situation to be considered, and after studying every kind of possible re-scheduling possibilities for Sunday-including time and stage changes, etc.-as well as considering the respect which is due to the potentially affected artists and their fans, the organization decided to not consider this option any longer. On the other hand, there were no guarantees that Morrissey would fly in on Sunday.

Finally, on Saturday August 7th, around 23.15, Jed Weitzman sent an email to Ana Sanabia which is reproduced below:

Dear Ana

Per our conversation this evening I have now released the charter planes that I had on hold for tomorrow. I appreciate your efforts to find time for Morrissey to play the festival tomorrow and understand your position that it is entirely impossible.

We all deeply regret that this medical crisis made it impossible for Morrissey to be there today.

From the Boz Boorer tour diary:

hello, sorry long time no update!
Not sure where we were up to...
After some more rehearsals withJjesse the new guitarist, we set off for Chicago for one show at the House Of Blues. Then the offer of Craig Kilborn came through so on the Sunday we headed off to LA, had 2 days off, then a days rehearsing, on the thursday we went into the CBS studios for the show. All went very well, we did 3 songs . On Sunday we went into the studio for a week to do some recording with Jerry Finn. I finally flew home on the Sunday, arriving on the Monday, day off Tues then 3 days rehearsing, followed by an aborted flight to Spain. Now I have a few days off to tie up my personal affairs and try to get my sudio up and running, the G4 isn't behaving itself at the moment ... before I go to Ireland with my family for 3 days of peace and quiet. More shows are being discussed which is very exciting.
cheers

'There Is A Light That Never Goes Out' featured in VH1s '100 greatest no 1s that never were'. It came in at no 49. (Robbie Williams' 'Angels' was #1, so that shows you what kind of chart this is).

Rilo Kiley Ambitious-Outsiders.com interview excerpt:

AO :: Have you had any time to listen to other music in the midst of your own music going ons?
Jenny :: I really like Joanna Newsom, she’s great. Comets on Fire, sub pop psychedelic noise band. I like the new Morrissey.

AO :: You do!
Jenny :: I do, I like 3 or 4 songs a lot!

AO :: Which?
Jenny :: I like ‘The World Is Full of Crashing Bores’ (laughing)

AO :: Can you relate to that?
Jenny :: I can relate to Morrissey, maybe he’s talking about me, maybe I’m a crashing bore. But I think that’s the greatest song title ever.

AO :: It’s great to know that you’re a Morrissey fan.
Jenny :: I am, I love Morrissey. A lot of my friends are huge Morrissey fans and they also DJ sometimes so they only play Morrissey.

Nancy Sinatra performed "Let Me Kiss You" at Little Steven's International Underground Garage Festival on Randall's Island in New York on Saturday, August 14th. The song was written by Morrissey and Alain Whyte.

Went to "Little Steven's Underground Garage Festival" this past Saturday on Randall's Island in New York. Performers included New York Dolls, Iggy & The Stooges, Strokes, Bo Diddley, Pete Best, Pretty Things, Creation, Romantics, and Nancy Sinatra. During her set, she mentioned her new album and that this one song was written by Morrissey. She then sang a rather average version of "Let Me Kiss You". The crowd neither loved nor hated it. It seemed like most people were really just waiting for the Dolls and Stooges. It was a great fest. It would have been perfect if the man himself had performed.

The New York Times is reporting that Julia Child has passed away at the age of 91.
Julia Child, who mastered the art of French cooking well enough to turn it into prime-time entertainment and who by introducing cassoulet to a casserole culture elevated both American food and television, died today at her home in Santa Barbara, Calif. She would have been 92 on Sunday.

Looks like Morrissey got his wish.

Her life story involves rumors of gay-bashing and homophobia, which likely explains Morrissey's attitude towards the famed chef.

Quoted from Morrissey Gigography
..."'Meat Is Murder' wasn't introduced with a short speech as it usually was, but instead Morrissey mentioned the fact that local chef Julia Childs [sic] had just celebrated her 90th birthday, and that he didn't wish her to live another year."
