Morrissey "likely" to be on Jonathan Ross's chat show soon, according to @wossy tweet

If that is true, and I remember with particular fondness his interview on The South Bank Show in 1987 as an example of him at his wittiest and most erudite, what the hell has gone wrong?

It cannot just be silly journalists. It is true he has had his problems with being, if not misquoted, then misunderstood in print, but the Morrissey of today, bucking the trend once more, but this time in getting less wise as he gets older, is a self made construct. That is him, or part thereof. It is the face he alone chooses to present to the world.

He presents himself as, and I'm sorry to use the words that will follow him around until the grave, but they seem very apposite, truculent and unreliable. I've said before I would cross the road to avoid him. Off the top of my head I cannot think of a public figure I would rather avoid, and I'm including the Houses of Parliament.

I wanted World Peace to be a winner, but it turned out to be a melody free slog. I needed it to be an astounding return to the heights we know/knew he was capable of, because it was the only way I could forgive him the too numerous to mention examples of his ongoing spoken word imbecility.

That awful public persona is even infecting his older material for me now. I was listening to Shoplifters the other day, and as marvellous as it is, I still found myself thinking, "God, he's an idiot."

Morrissey's public relations are a disaster of his own making. Dimwit journalists merely record the event.

Jesus, you're still bellyaching?

And still claiming WPINOYB lacks melody? Now that's some bollocks. Okay, you're over Morrissey, don't like him personally anymore, can't even stand Smiths songs now because you hate him so much, but fer f***'s sake, quit pretending the album doesn't have melodies. It's one of his catchiest of the last twenty years, whatever you think of the lyrics. Most songs I could hum after one listen, and after two listens they were throbbing in my head. I listen to the album almost daily and hum the songs still. The one thing they're bloody not is lacking in melody. And there you are yapping like it's still July after your first listen, and I come back hoping for something new and all there is is you again.

Get off the stage.

Bravo. Well put, Nitrate21.
I haven't stop laughing since reading the "melody free slog" comment.
It has made my day. Hurrah !

His public persona is a matter of public record. There's the clue.

If that is really how he wishes himself to be perceived then more fool him. It has plainly had a negative impact on his current career.

The sooner you get over the fact that Morrissey pisses people off the better. It's worked on you so you should know by now.

Quoting ACTON from the earlier thread on this subject:
"I don't blame Moz for feeling a bit deflated. He released a fantastic album (a 'monster' as he put it himself) and the radio stations are too dumb to play it, and there was no fanfare. He should have been on some TV shows but they were too dim witted to invite him. It really is a disgrace. His best album in years and probably only the die hards will know. That's no way to add to your audience.
And on the other hand you see mediocre shit or absolute offal making it onto the airwaves and having success even though the music is vile and the lead singers have the charisma of a dead donkey abandoned on the top of Croagh Patrick. The world is a strange place populated by boring sheep-people whose only desire is to be led through life by people thicker than themselves. Ah well, at least I have the 'World Peace' deluxe CD to cheer me up, and the prospect of a Moz concert in Ireland later in the year."

True ACTON.
Now buck up. At least you can get out of the house and get to Ireland. What treat waits for you, I wonder.

Morrissey released a fanstastic WPINOYB album.

Radio is dying - only the dance chart seems to be on Capital Radio Manchester UK at 8am in a morning on the early show. very selective, and they even have the same songs on at the same time, on different days. The shows are live every day and are not taped nor repeated.
No sign of GAGA and BENNETT on the radio this week either. Meanwhile GAGA strips off on Twitter and still gets no airplay with the new album !

Music sales are dying.

If his label had been doing what they were supposed to be doing, then Morrissey would have been on TV, interviewed in various
magazines (and not just the Irish) and probably been photographed with Gaga and Tony Bennett, if they had any sense (but they didn't) and they were harvested. It's sad but funny but sad. Sad because it is a better album that Strangeways Here We Come, by a long shot, in my opinion. That's how good it is. It's equally as good as V&I and that's a great album too.

Many "music" magazines are dying too.

There is no-one clever enough that has stayed to work at these places. The clever one's (from Morrissey's generation and from my generation) have all gone. They are writing novels, biographies and so on, in London, in Morecombe and in Manchester. Remaining staff are "towing the line" with the big labels. This week's phenonmenon is pushed. Totally ignoring last weeks or last years. Not heard one Artic Monkey's track lately on any radio station. Not heard one Keene song recently either. Nothing from the last BECK album. Nothing from the new PRIMITIVES album, not even the original "sunshine in my rainy day mind" nor any Gaga/Bennett. Madness (no pun intended.)

If Morrissey had been invited onto shows, would he have been playing OBOE, STAIRCASE, ISTANBUL ?
All of them ? All amazing songs. Imagine hearing these live in a small studio - -- - -- - - - !

I hope he does get onto Ross's tight schedule. Despite what you may read, hear, guess or even speculate, Morrissey is truly a great guy (REALLY.) Morrissey knows a lot about music too. Infact, he know's a HECK of a lot about music. Dumbo Journo's just seem to ask him the wrong questions. You could hit them sometimes for being so dumb.
Maybe they are in SHELLSHOCK (no pun intended) - possibly.

Meanwhile, "round round, the rhythm of life goes round" and ACTON deserves a few points for his post above and for buying the deluxe album.

Well stone me and the crows while you are at it. It is great to read something nice for a change, unless I am missing the sarcasm, in which case it is still nice. I can not claim credit for travelling to Ireland as I actually live here, or try to at least. I still love the new album (I'll call it new until the next one comes out) and everything about it apart from the 90 seconds of near silence which has tried to kill me a few times while driving. Great to hear that Moz will likely be on Rossy. The quality of that show has gone down in my opinion ever since Rossy's debacle with Russell Bland and their humiliation of Andrew Sachs's granddaughter (or niece or whatever she is). Would be nice to see a proper guest like Moz on the show. By proper I mean someone who won't answer the questions but will sing a great song. In fact I hope they don't waste time interviewing him and just let him do two songs instead.

Who is it you actually think you're kidding round here barelyborn?
This relentless posturing drivel you spew out day after day after year.......what the f*** for?
We all get that you having grown out the eighties, never forgiven moz for some perceived insult to your sixth form sensibilities. But why are you still lurking round every corner, a stalker that can't let go.
Reality is Morrissey is a infinitely better singer and songwriter and performer than he ever was. Just released arguably the album of his career, and yet you in your twisted bitter state still hanker after a slice of 1986 when, presumably, your life wasn't so meaningless?
Let It go barelyborn, there must be something out there you could get even just a little bit positive about.
