she looks mortifyingly GOTHIC to me. Ugh! Remember goths???

Re: she looks mortifyingly GOTHIC to me. Ugh! Remember goths???

Goths seem to be with us again, although they have always lurked around somewhere, but there seems to have been a rise in the smattering of teenage girls, with their black nail varnish, dodgy piercings, and distasteful colours.

It always pained me how Sioxsie Sioux would get lumped in with the mid 80s goths, the look went before the music here, you could never describe the Banshees music as goth.

I know, Siouxsie's a genius IMO.... with the Banshees and the Creatures (remember their ultra camp but fab version of 'Right Now'? Class)

Goths... blame old Ziggy-clone Manson for that, I say. Wanker.

Ugh! Remember goths???

Goths are still around, they've just changed the name of their allegiance. They're all into that Marilyn Manson woman. It makes me smile, wrily, to see skinny (and not so skinny) 14 year old girls wearing black clothes (particular in Summer), with black / purple lipstick on and panda eyes, trying desperately to look 'different'. Funny how they think that by dressing like this the are exerting their individuality. They all look the same! Reminds me of Python's "Life Of Brian", with the crowd chanting in unison, "yes! we're all individuals!".

Every party that I went to in my younger years (and there weren't that many parties) you'd find a somewhat fuller figured goth girl in the corner drinking cider and screaming out "put 'Love Cats' on". Truly horrible. Me, I always had a passing liking for the Mission. It lasted a week.

I've just lost what little credibility I had haven't I!

I loved 'Serpents Kiss' when that came out!! And then they got bloated on themselves and their own importance.. same with the Sisters of Mercy with that strange Andrew Eldritch. The odd great song.. but the imagery got on your nerves after a while.

PS, I find the Goth girl image that TMF mentioned quite sexy actually, blame Siouxsie Sioux!

Re: Ugh! Remember goths???

hmm...overweight goth teen girls.... they never have boyfriends, always end up crying at closing time and end up becoming 'fag hags'.

As for Goths - I spent the mid half of the 80s in black (even though thru the whole time I was a devout Smiths fan).

I looked like across between Marilyn, Bananarama and Morticia.

Mortifying.

Wearing black and red stripey tights? Gulp.

I had a fleeting crush on Siouxsie in 1987 or so. It didn't last. Phew! I think I moved on to the singer in "Swing Out Sister". Seems like I had a thing about black bobbed hair.

Yes but she stole her look from Louise Brooks.

God, that's very true. And they usually are wearing black mesh scarves in August to try and conceal the horrific love bites they've got from their boyfriend, both believing themselves to be vampires, but er.. they aren't.

Another thing, how come all girl Smith's fans are goths nowadays? The only girlie non-goth Smiths fan I know is me. I can't be the only one! Perhaps I should just give in, don my Incubus t-shirt and go and sit outside the Leeds Corn Exchange on a Saturday afternoon.

No don't change.. keep wearing black on the inside.. but a pretty lemony chiffon on the outside.

Re: Ugh! Remember goths???

Original Goths weren't so bad - they tended to like creative artistes like Danielle Dax, Fad Gadget, Bauhaus, Bowie, etc. And the girls were often very, very sexy.
