Morrissey's first release in 7 years, the single "Irish Blood, English Heart" is out now in the US and the UK next week.

jonathan d. writes:

Just purchased the Irish Blood, English Heart EP on iTunes. Release date was listed as May 4th, but I suppose it is so already in some portions of the world.

Ben also writes:

As has been mentioned before, the "Irish Blood, English Heart" EP is now available on the iTunes Music Store for $3.96. The single contains three B-sides ("It's Hard to Walk Tall When You're Small," "Munich Air Disaster 1958," and "The Never Played Symphonies"); when you download from iTunes, you also receive the album artwork.

If you've not downloaded iTunes just yet, now's your chance! It's available on the Apple website for both PC and Mac:

If you've already got it, here's a link to the EP.

Virgin Radio has confirmed that Morrissey will be appearing on Razorcuts on Sunday 16th May.

The show which goes out between 7pm and 9pm will have Morrissey picking his favourites songs and talking about his life between 9 and 10.

The posting on the Virgin Radio website says:

"Razor Cuts, Sunday 16 May
Graham Coxon plays live in session, plus... A Morrissey Special! Razor Cuts devotes a whole hour to the great man to do, well... basically what the hell he likes. Will he play his new album in its entirety back-to-back?... will he reveal some of his favourite solo or Smiths tracks?... treat us to a taste of some of the new bands he's planning to sign to the Attack label that Sanctuary Records have promised him?... or perhaps preview some of the new tracks he's written for his next-door neighbour Nancy Sinatra. You'll just have to listen in to find out."

Virgin can be heard in the London area on 105.8FM, in the rest of the UK on 1215AM, via satellite or digital radio or on their website at:

Rob Patete sends the link to the mention at ICE Magazine.

excerpt:

"The First of the Gang to Die" (second single)... VP of Marketing Madelyn Scarpulla tells ICE that "Irish Blood, English Heart," which was leaked to radio a month early, "is indicative of the record. It isn't typical Morrissey at all? it's very rich, layered and mid-tempo? lyrically smart and extremely political - in a bright and funny way." A deluxe version of the release contains a bonus DVD with the video for the single plus some B-roll footage. A more extensive DVD will be released later in the year.

Rachel sends the link:

Why Morrissey Matters. (link)
by Rachel Elder, The Black Table (May 3, 2004)

Excerpt:

As the super fan zoned in on the stage, floating atop the crowd, Morrissey recognized him as a follower -- perhaps from a recent signing or maybe a fan letter -- pointed him out and said "Hellooo ... Zach" over the house mic. And Zach went absolutely nuts. Later, during the same tour, Zach got up onstage again, but somehow failed to get Morrissey's attention, no matter how hard he waved and screamed. After the show, Zach was *devastated* by this and drunkenly cursed Morrissey up and down for ignoring him. A seven-year layoff is nothing -- Morrissey couldn't get rid of his fans if he wanted to.

John, England writes:

Morrissey ‘Irish Blood English Heart’ - Today FM (link)

One of the finest songwriters of the past 20 years marks his return with a single of monstrous bravado. After a lot of label hopping, the former Smiths frontman has settled on Sanctuary Records, and this, the first track from his forthcoming ‘You Are The Quarry’ album, is as good as anything he’s ever put a pen to. Full of bite and spit as only you’d expect from the maestro, this is a song as big and bold as you’ll hear all year – “there is no-one on earth I’m afraid of/And no regime can buy or sell me” – and it slowly builds to a torrent of roaring guitars and thundering drums that grabs you and throws you around the room. Single of the year so far – brilliant.

Just got this email from www.olympians-online.co.uk :

Hi All,

Gene have confirmed that the Artistic Director of this years Meltdown Festival (that would be greying quiffmeister Morrissey..) has asked them to make a few appearances at the London event in June. Firstly they will be performing an acoustic show on the 25th June at the QEH, then on the 26th June you can catch them at the Festival Hall, this time with their instruments plugged-in. Oh, and if you happen to be at the Morrissey show on the 25th and are now cursing the fact that you'll have missed the lads playing, it might be worth you paying a visit to the Festival Hall main bar after Moz has finished doing his thing - you could be in a for a little surprise...

Tickets can be bought at all the usual places online, whilst details of the Meltdown Festival itself can be found at http://www.rfh.org.uk/meltdown/ .

mist. writes:

The Observer has named the release of "This Charming Man" as one of the most important moments in rock 'n roll history:
Their second single and first hit, 'This Charming Man' had a signature sound that would establish the Smiths as the most important British group of the Eighties. Johnny Marr's chiming guitar and Morrissey's odd, genderless lyrics combined to give a new spin to what was essentially a classic rock sound. Quintessentially English, they singlehandedly reclaimed guitar pop in a decade when it had almost been consigned to the dustbin of history.
Putting The Smiths in the same hierarchy as Dylan, Hendrix and The Beatles, among others.
