Morrissey will play Lollapalooza this year. From what I hear, it was just confirmed today. --- An article on Lollapalooza appeared in Billboard ("Lollapalooza Eyes Blend Of Success, Credibility" - Mar. 9, 2004) does not mention Morrissey but the source is credible. Excerpt from Billboard article: Lollapalooza is expected to hit the road in July and August. "There will be a bunch of good stuff," Geiger promises. ---

My fear (Score:3, Interesting)
I honestly fear that Morrissey would not be terribly welcomed at Lollapalooza. Historically, Lollapalooza has featured some "rough" acts (and always at least one hip-hop/R&B artist).
When I think of Lollapalooza I think of Pearl Jam, Nine Inch Nails, Rage Against the Machine, Jane's Addiction, and other acts! I don't think Lollapalooza has a very diversified image. I might be wrong; I can't recall all of the line-ups...
I have never been terribly impressed with much of Lollapalooza, although I try to keep an open mind-(?)
I am afraid drunken individuals would "BOO" Morrissey, and that would simply break my heart.
For example, when I saw 10,000 Maniacs perform their last tour with Natalie Merchant- a hideous thing happened. (This lovely concert was for "Our Time in Eden." The venue was Poplar Creek near Chicago, Illinois. I believe the year was 1994.) Anyway, Natalie Merchant was about to play "Everyday is Like Sunday." She introduced the song sweetly, saying: "Imagine yourself at a Morrissey concert!" People began booing and shouting obscenities. I was shocked beyond belief- I also almost cried. I thought her rendition was touching.
Anyhow, I hope this posting makes sense. I could not believe the ill-manners at a 10,000 Maniacs concert. (By the way, World Party was the opening act.)
Also, I would never be able to get close to the stage to almost touch Morrissey's hand at Lollapalooza. So I *will* go to Lollapalooza, but I think Morrissey would shine better in the smaller venues, and I think he knows that!

Also, while no doubt some people would boo Morrissey (how much so would depend on the other bands and what sorts of people they attract), it's also likely that enough of us Morrissey fans would be present in large enough numbers to ensure he gets lots of loving too. And I think we could really show the world something if Morrissey took the stage sometime in the middle of the Lollapalooza shows yet got the biggest audience reactions.
But, no, I don't believe Morrissey will play Lollapalooza.
