Just thought I would let you know that I've heard Morrissey is looking VERY likely to be a part of Lollapalooza this summer. The festival will be a two-day affair in each city. Morrissey would be a part of the first day as a co-headliner with Sonic Youth. Other artists rumored to appear: Gomez, The Flaming Lips, Interpol, String Cheese Incident, Willie Nelson.

  • since Lollapalooza costs a fortune.
And so much for small venues.....

  • Between the increase in ticket price, the inability to get close to the stage, to rush the stage, or to shake his hand, I would say that this would not be the greatest experience for the more hard-core among us.

  • But who cares! Seeing Morrissey is worth it. Anywhere, anytime

  • Part of me thinks this is great, but part of me enjoys seeing him in the small venues in Chicago like the Riv or the Aragon.

The ability to get so close to him is incredible. That won't happen at the big festival. The line-up sounds good, though. I can't imagine Morrissey being associated with Perry Ferrell (spelling?) I believe he started the festival.

Festivals in general frustrate me because too many people just wander around aimlessly and create havoc for the real fans who are seriously devoted to the music. I don't want face-painting or free samples of a new product while listening to Morrissey sing! Or body jewelry or whatever!!!

    I am selfish!

  • Ugh! Festivals are the worst. Suffering all day (usually in the heat) listening to bands you care nothing about just to hear a truncated set by the one band (maybe two bands) you came to see. No thanks! There are always people drunk or on drugs or fighting with each other. Ticket prices are ridiculous, food and drink prices outrageous, and parking is usually about $100 per car. Morrissey, please don't do this. You know your fans will still show up, despite the torture. But you're not going to get any new fans this way. Stick with the small clubs. Your real fans deserve it!

  • PLEASE GOD NO.

If he wants to do a leg or two of Lollapolaza IN ADDITION to a tour on his own, thats fine. BUT PLEASE do regular solo tour as well. The thought of sitting through hours of garbage to see Morrissey in a 20,000 ampitheatre pretty much kills ALL enthusiasm I have for the upcoming tour.

  • This isn't a good idea, and I can actually remember him condemning the whole idea of Lolapalooza personally in an interview he'd done a few years ago, so with any luck this just simply won't happen.

My God, I have never seen such a bunch of whining malcontents in my life. "I don't like the other bands"..."I don't like the heat"..."I can't get near to Morrissey" etc.

Sonic Youth have been a mainstay of the alternative scene for over 20 years and deserve respect. Interpol are one of the most exciting new bands of the last couple of years. Willie Nelson is...well, Willie Nelson.

So far this year, we have the promise of a new album (finally!), tour dates (with more to follow), the Meltdown Festival and possibly even more. So stop bleating when he decides to to one thing that doesn't quite meet with your approval. Personally, I think this tour wouldn't be such a bad idea and it's a sign of how Morrissey has broadened his outlook in the last 7 years...some of you could well do the same.

  • If Moz plays at Lollapalooza, I say more power to him. Perry Farrell started this festival back in '91 to expose people who generally listen to one genre of music to multiple genres of music, and it's paved the way for numerous other festivals like Area:One, Coachella, etc. (I'm not claiming he originated this concept: think US Festival, Glastonbury, etc.) I remember when I was in high school back in the 80's you were either in the alternative/indie scene, the metal scene, or the Top 40 or hip-hop/rap scene, with almost no room for crossover. When I started to rock out to Motley Crue, I pretty much surrendered my allegiance to Duran Duran, as if I couldn't like BOTH bands at the same time. Now, thanks to festivals such as this, I listen to rap, metal, goth, indie-and don't feel "guilty" about it. and there are clubs all over the place that play bands like Depeche Mode, the Smiths, Grandmaster Flash, Outkast, and Madonna-all in the same night, and I love it. I may or may not go to Lollapalooza (I'd much prefer he play at Coachella instead!) but let's be real-Moz will definitely tour on his own, so we all will get a chance to see him in all his glory.
