Ok, Best opening line

Not verbatim but I liked when he said 'what is America's obsession with incredibly dull women?'
Was interested also to know whether he said the later part about Anna Nicole Smith before or after she committed suicide.

there is no debate about it. why are we wasting an entire thread over the issue?

i decree today that life is simply taking and not giving
England is mine, and it owes me a living
Ask me why and i'll spit in your eye....

Pretty much.

Some other goodies:

Punctured bicycle
On a hillside, desolate

I am the son
And the heir
Of a shyness that is criminally vulgar

(Yes, quite obvious choices)

Writing this to say
In a gentle way
Thank you, but no

It could be the whole line, or just those in bold :)

The strange logic in your clumsiest line, it stayed emblazoned on my mind.

The sanest days are mad, why don't you find out for yourself?

With no complication, 15 generations of mine, all honoring nature until I arrive -with incredible style

Sleep on and dream of love, because it's the closest you will get to love.

Why do you come here and why do you hang around?

There is something I wanted to tell you, it's so funny you'll kill yourself laughing...but then I, I look around and remember that I am alone... forevermore (okay, I'm cheating a bit on this one ;))
Trouble loves me, trouble needs me. Two things more than you do.

It's the same old SOS,
but with brand new broken fortunes.

I've always liked the opening lyrics to Half a Person.

Call me morbid, call me pale
I've spent six years on your trail

Learn to love me- assemble the ways, now, today, tomorrow and always.

All men have secrets and here is mine, so let it be known...

It's time the tale were told of how you took a child and made him old.

Hand in glove, the sun shines out of our behinds. :p

I've come to wish you an unhappy birthday, cuz you're evil and you lie...

*I cannot just pick one. Obviously  :D*

And I love the quote sampled at the start of Maladjusted.

On this glorious occasion ... of the splendid defeat

Learn to love me- assemble the ways, now, today, tomorrow and always.

It's like when they ask you for your favourite Morrissey song and you return a blank expression or a twisted face due to your lack of comprehension that there can only be one. Sophie had a easy choice.

erm I think this one 'It's time the tale were told of how you took a child and made him old' then. It resonates with me because of someone I knew, well one or two people actually. I think it is a very powerful line. I prefer it to some of the lines in his new song although they are clearly about different forms of abuse. 'kicked the shit out of them' has the shock value but not the same power.I think you tend to focus on the vulgarity of the language more than really getting a sense of the pain the children injured and the injustice of the system.
I find it quite hard to choose from the rest of the openings. Most of them resonate with me on some level.

:D true! It's like trying to tell someone why you love Morrissey so much. Thr are jus too many feelings and thoughts to put into words ;) It's overwhelming!

Sweetness, sweetness I was only joking when I said I'd like to smash every tooth in your head :guitar:

Impossible to pick just one. There are simply too many. Here are some more good 'uns:

Oh mother I can feel the soil falling over my head.
And as I climb into an empty bed ... oh well, enough said.

Girlfriend in a coma I know, I know it's serious.

Further into the fog I fall ... well I was just following you.

Park the car at the side of the road you should know time's tide will smother you ... and I will too.

I am a poor freezingly cold soul, so far from where I intended to go.
Scavenging through life's very constant lows, so far from where I'm determined to go.

I won't share you,
I won't share you.
With the drive and ambition,
The zeal I feel this is my time.

one of the best opening songs for a moz concert imo

Stop me, oh, stop me
Stop me if you think that you've
Heard this one before
Stop me, oh, stop me
Stop me if you think that you've heard this one before
