Strictly speaking ALL of the continent's inabitants all Asian, though usage has refined the term, for the most part, to the biogeographic East and South; Arabs, Turks, and Iranians are seldom designated as "Asian". I would, likewise, fracture this term from causal usage for those of the subcontinent. What makes the matter confusing, is that emigre Indians often find it in their political or economic interest to indentify, organize, and assemble with Asians proper (Chinese, Japanese, Koreans, etc.), hence, the ambiguity.
