It shows average British consumers taste in pop/rock music which isn't too bad.

If you conduct a similar poll in Japan, the result would be devastating. :(

 Oasis over the Beatles? There would NOT be an Oasis without the Fab Four.

There was a great insert in last month's Entertainment magazine, it was a pullout of the best indie bands in the last 25 years, the Smiths were on the list and the album of choice was The Queen Is Dead, single was How Soon Is Now? Other bands were like Dinosaur Jr, Depeche, and such...

Keane - Under The Iron Sea

better than ...

Rubber Soul / Led Zep IV / The Queen Is Dead.

Yeah right!!!!

Arctic Monkeys - Favourite Worst Nightmare
Coldplay - A Rush Of Blood To The Head
Muse - Black Holes & Revelations

?????
It's no use arguing, though.

ON a side issue, I've never and will never understand the deal with The White Album by The Beatles, it's a shoddy piece of work by 4 men who'd grown tired of each other and were working apart. Sure it contains some gems but it's not and shouldn't be considered as a Top 50 album, too many duff tracks on there for my liking.

I think it's just this decades 'flavour of the month' just like Revolver has suddenly become their best album when in the past it was never considered to be as good as Pepper. It is a great album tho but in 10 years time they'll probably start saying Strangeways is the best Smiths album.
