why does music sound so much better during nigthtime than during daytime? why does the same piece of music take on a greater emotive power, lucidity and clarity when one is surrounded in semmi darkness? it is a question i have often asked myself, yet have never came up with a convincing answer. does anybody have any ideas to solves this mystery for me?

if someone answers THIS question right, what do they get? A pair of your stinky sweat socks?

I listen to music wherever I go.

I have some that sounds good alone in the car.
...and then others that work better when there are people there...

I always listen to Moz alone.

I like to listen to jazz at work.

I set my radio alarm to a really crappy station like a country western station so I will have motivation to not hit my snooze button and get up quicker.

Of course, concerts work better when the lights are off in the audience. It keeps the performer on stage from getting too good a look at the audience and reeling back in horror at what passes as their fans.

In the end, I don't really see anything about all music working better when it is dark.

Ahh, country music...the music of pain!

Yeah, but these days I'm thinking about changing the station to nothing but AM static. I'm in danger of becoming happy from listening to the C&W.

Static...doesn't that have the same amount of talent to it as C&W?!

No, it manages to actually sound MORE depressing than country western, so it has more talent.

Good point! And I suppose being more of a constant noise/pitch it has that unique 'Chinese Water Torture' effect - double whammy!

Or maybe for those extra hard mornings, record the sound of a dentists drill and set that to play.

It's Not ALL Bad, Y'know

Willie Nelson; Johnny Cash; Roger Miller; the list goes on.

yeah, I know it's not, but it's only good in the right setting.

For example, there is someone I work with who turns up their radio with new country to the point where I can hear it from where I'm sitting. That's bad for 8 hours. It only makes me more irritated at her than what I am.

Eww...

I don't like having my teeth messed with. Them being yanked around my mouth with braces is bad enough.

But if you are chipper, here are some fun things to wake up to:

If you have a CD player alarm, stick a live album in so that when it turns on in the morning, you wake up to the sound of thunderous applause.

The William Tell Overture is another good one. It has the whole seize the day! motif going for it.
