I listen to music wherever I go.
I have some that sounds good alone in the car.
...and then others that work better when there are people there...
I always listen to Moz alone.
I like to listen to jazz at work.
I set my radio alarm to a really crappy station like a country western station so I will have motivation to not hit my snooze button and get up quicker.
Of course, concerts work better when the lights are off in the audience. It keeps the performer on stage from getting too good a look at the audience and reeling back in horror at what passes as their fans.
In the end, I don't really see anything about all music working better when it is dark.
