Hello,

I just contacted the Seattle Theatre Group to ease my anxiety. Morrissey was on their calendar yesterday but for some reason not today. Why that happened is a mystery with no surprise.

I was told that the show would officially be announced on October 5th and that tickets will be available just a few days later on the 10th.

See you there!!!

A slice of luxury (Myres Castle) - Scotland Magazine
Published in Scotland Magazine Issue 31 on 16/02/2007.

Excerpt:

Myres Castle is a beautiful 16th century estate just 30 minutes from Edinburgh’s Forth Bridge. It is also the first exclusive use property to be awarded the prestigious five stars by VisitScotland.

A stay here is completely private, it’s more like a house-swap than a hotel. There is no reception desk, no room keys or door numbers, nothing that really shouts ‘you are in a hotel.’ Instead it softly whispers, ‘this is your home – relax.’ Staff are discreet but dedicated, appearing when they feel you might need something, slipping away when you’ve fallen asleep on the couch after lunch.

This kind of privacy is bound to appeal to celebrities. When questioned, the staff at Myres Castle refused to disclose the famous names of the most recent guests, but a sneaky peek through the visitors’ book revealed names like photographer David Bailey, musician Morrissey and comedian Rory Bremner.

'My phone got wet' and other terrible excuses - The Guardian Music blog
Empire of the Sun's Nick Littlemore wins the award for Biggest Cop-Out Ever with his explanation for 'disappearing'. But what other lame reasons have pop stars given for failing to deliver?

Excerpt:

3) Morrissey's "wrong type of snow"
We could fill an entire blog with excuses for gig cancellations. Amy Winehouse and Pete Doherty are regular offenders – we wouldn't possibly like to speculate why. But the king of the bizarre excuse is serial canceller Mozzer. The former Smiths singer has called off so many shows citing illness and voice issues that his more unusual excuses stand out. At various times, he has pulled shows claiming problems with the water mains, central heating and having discovered the venue was a former abattoir (which would rule out Meat Is Murder). Our favourite is (we can still barely believe anyone fell for this one) ... snow on the venue roof.

I guess that any Morrissey/Marr reunion will be put on the backburner for a little while yet... Marr has just announced that he is to write an album with former Stones Roses frontman Ian Brown.
The BBC website has the story:

Not strictly news, but this may amuse...

Today I have found out that I won a prize in an Alan Bennett competition run by his UK publishing house, Faber & Faber.

The format of the competition had been to send in a question for Alan and, if he liked it, he would provide the answer.

My prize was a copy of his lovely new book A LIFE LIKE OTHER PEOPLE'S…

Inside it is my question, and the answer handwritten by Alan Bennett.

MY QUESTION: You once remarked of fellow Northerner Morrissey: "He has an interesting face. He looks like he's lived a life and has a tale to tell". What do you think your own face reveals about you?

ALAN'S ANSWER: The opposite.

Book Notes - Greg Olear ("Totally Killer") - Largehearted Boy

In his own words, here is Greg Olear's Book Notes music playlist for his debut novel, Totally Killer:

When I met my Harpers editor, Jen Schulkind, for the first time, I brought her a compilation CD called Todd’s Totally Killer Mix. This was, supposedly, a mix tape Todd Lander, the narrator of my novel Totally Killer, made for the love of his life, Taylor Schmidt, in November of 1991.

Here, then, are the songs on Todd’s Totally Killer Mix. Taken together, they not only evoke the mood of the ’91 East Village, but also adumbrate the plot of the book:

"Heaven Knows I’m Miserable Now" The Smiths

I was looking for a job / And then I found a job / And heaven knows, I’m miserable now. ‘Nuf said.
