Town hall sets new agenda for Morrissey gig by James Doherty, scotsman.com

Excerpt:

Geoff Ellis, the chief executive of DF Concerts, promoting the small-town gigs, said that Morrissey had asked to play Scots dates in towns that start with the letter P.

...

Mr Ellis added: "I wouldn’t be surprised if these tickets go in a day. Just the sheer fact that if you live in Perth or Paisley and you’re a music fan, you’ll want to go to that gig. They will go in a matter of hours."

Elusive as ever, Morrissey was said to be "somewhere in a plane" yesterday, when contacted by The Scotsman.

However, a spokeswoman for Sanctuary Records, which he’s signed to, said: "He’s been doing a lot of festival dates mainly and they are huge for them, but this is a nice juxtaposition.

"I’d love to know why he wants to play these smaller venues, but he does whatever he wants to do - he’s Morrissey."

The Edinburgh CE gig is being recorded by BBC Radio Scotlands Air show and will be broadcast in September.

On the show tonight they mentioned the 20th Sept as a date for broadcast but the good thing is that it will be streamed on their site for a week afterwards anyway for our international cousins. Thanks to Kev for the tipoff.

Courtney, Franz, White Stripes amaze Fuji Rock crowd - NME.com

Morrissey was unable to appear at this year’s event, and, astonishingly his replacement was a Smiths covers band that left most confused, angry or amused.

FOTG slipped just 5 places this week to number 17 which, as anyone who's ever taken an interest in Moz's chart success will tell you, is quite phenomenal! With the exception of Alma Matters and Ignore Me, none of the Vauxhall, Southpaw, or Maladjusted singles even reached the top 20 let alone survived three weeks in it!

YATQ is at number 23 down a few places from last week. That platinum disc can't be far off now!

Alice Cooper mentioned Morrissey on his radio show tonight, said things such as The Smiths mean nothing in the US and that Moz's lyrics make him vomit. Although I'm sure it was all in jest, he did mention that we could email him at [email protected]. Also I found [email protected] on his show's website as an alternate address.

The Xfm Tent Auction Is Go

The tent touched by a thousand stars finally goes up for auction today. So dig deep to raise money for Shelter for one of the last pairs of Reading Festival weekend tickets and a fine Xfm tent signed by the likes of Morrissey, The Charlatans, Delays, Ricky Gervais, Ash, Zoe Ball, Gomez, The Bees, Graham Coxon, Polyphonic Spree, The Beta Band...

“I really hope people put their hands in their pockets and dig deep for charity,” Lauren explains. “After all, the tent has been touched by the pens of people that have written some of the greatest songs of the twentieth century.

“Not to mention the free tickets to Reading Festival that come with it, but if you take the tent with you remember not to pitch it too close to the porta-loos – you wouldn’t want to get sh*t on Morrissey’s signature.”

The bidding opens at 4pm today (August 2) with the opening bid of £50.

Following the news from Sanctuary that the DVD is not yet a definite, I'm running an online petition asking them to release the Manchester concerts. If you feel you'd like the Manchester shows to have a commercial release, please fill in the petition on the website listed below - at the end of Aug 2004, I'll hand the petition over to Sanctuary.

Pete Doherty goes AWOL - NME.com

Excerpt:

"However, they sounded great compared to the next support act, who was a wasted-looking type in a straw hat. He launched into Morrissey's 'Your Gonna Need Someone On Your Side' and it immediately became apparent that he had neither stagecraft nor any musical talent whatsoever. In fact he wouldn't have cut it on the platform at Camden Town tube.
