"This Charming Shrine".
In today's "Friday Review" section of the Guardian an article with two pictures one taken of The Smiths from the sleeve of The Queen Is Dead, and a similar one of the author of the article Will Woodward and his mates outside The Salford Lads Club appears alongside a page long article about both the history of the photo and the relationship between the band, the club, and you and me, Smiths devotees.

Its a great article by the journalist who obviously is both a fan and a journalist writing about something that means a lot to both him and fans.

From the article it appears the club owners eventually realised that the was a business oppurtunity to be had as they now have opened a room called "The Smiths Room". Fans from as far as Mexico, Latvia, and Guatemala make pilgrims to the famous club. The club now allows fans to make their own contribution by submitting memorabilia to add to the rooms tribute to the band.

You can access the article here:

When an iconic photograph turned Salford Lads Club into a magnet for Smith fans, the venue was furious. Now it's opened a room in their honour. Will Woodward goes on a personal odyssey

Regarding Sanctuary's recent description of the imminent Morrissey album as being titled "For Your Quarry" (as reported by yours truly, Feb 12th), this has now been changed to "You Are The Quarry". Thank God.

I wrote this song a while back and thought it would be very appropriate today for Moz and Morrissey-lovers as well, even if Valentine's is a lost cause...

Southpaw

Your words will forever ring in my mind
"Sing your life, any fool can think of words that rhyme"
And I know it's gonna happen someday
Because every day is like Sunday
And, oh, on Sunday
On Sunday you know I love you

You and I, spawned in November
Oh you, the last of the famous
And I, stuck to you like glamorous glue
Certain people I know say it's not right
But now my heart is full of you

Your words have forever changed me so
"Do your best and don't worry"
And I held on to my friends
Because I know the loop will bring you back someday
And, oh, even if your busy, really busy
You know I'll still love you

You and I, spawned in November
Oh you, the last of the famous
And I, stuck to you like glamorous glue
Certain people I know say it's not right
But now my heart is full of you

Some of you out there are going to be broken up with this Valentine's Day. Happens every year. Here's what to do.

Music helps ease pain of break-ups by Helen Schumaker, Oregon Daily Emerald

Excerpt:

he only reservation I have for Feb. 14 is to hide away in my bedroom with a bottle of red wine and a couple of Smiths albums. Yes, this year I refuse to hide behind a pleasant facade of pink and red. I can no longer deny my loathing of Valentine's Day. There is no sincerity in three-pound boxes of chocolate or heart-shaped mylar balloons. Instead, I intend to revel in the genuine pain of Morrissey. So in ironic honor of this weekend's holiday, I have compiled a list of the best break-up songs.

"The only choice we have to make about how many Celine Dion records to stock is between none and sod all," says Tully. "However, I will be turning the shop into a Morrissey shrine for the release of his new album, and I will be personally insulted if every Morrissey fan in Edinburgh doesn’t come here to get it."
