Some of you out there are going to be broken up with this Valentine's Day. Happens every year. Here's what to do.

Music helps ease pain of break-ups by Helen Schumaker, Oregon Daily Emerald

Excerpt:

he only reservation I have for Feb. 14 is to hide away in my bedroom with a bottle of red wine and a couple of Smiths albums. Yes, this year I refuse to hide behind a pleasant facade of pink and red. I can no longer deny my loathing of Valentine's Day. There is no sincerity in three-pound boxes of chocolate or heart-shaped mylar balloons. Instead, I intend to revel in the genuine pain of Morrissey. So in ironic honor of this weekend's holiday, I have compiled a list of the best break-up songs.

  • I think Steppenwolf broke VD 1971. They had a song called "Who needs ya".I remember some of the lyrics.{It's sunrise on the freeway as I get back from town/find ya standing in my boots/kickin my dog around/empty bottles on the floor /enough to build a monument/then you got the nerve to tell me/somebody took the rent:whooo needs ya/can ya tell me baby}} Their last album "For Ladies Only" was my favorite.

  • Hmm, I'm kinda partial to The Divine Comedy's 'Something For The Weekend'.
