Explorer magazine

So there I was today, in Hull train station, collecting some tickets. From the corner of my vision, this fine little issue woke me up. It's just a feature on the Manchester music history and its famous sights and venues. It could be my age, but I don't think I've ever seen the actual cover photo before. Being a decent chap, I thought I'd scan it for you all. If you want a copy, you can probably pick it up in any northern train station, and it's free! Enjoy.

  • Manchester Piccadilly....what a place! I've such great memories of the place going back 20 years. Being lonely, being in love, going to London, going abroad, being skint & desperate, frost on the tracks in winter or boiling hot carriages in the summer! Piccadilly was "the port" between the north and the south, ie. London and Manchester. I still get the chills walking through the station even though it look's like nothing it did back then. A Legendary place!

  • Morrissey looks really gorgeous in that picture. I don't think I've seen the picture before either, and I think I've seen most pictures of Moz that's out there.
Does anyone know when it was taken and by whom?

  • Good looks
    Good hooks
And a couple things to get off their chest and tell the world...

For those interested in seeing more of Paul Slattery's photographic work with The Smiths, there is a book entitled "The Smiths: The Early Years, Photographs by Paul Slattery" (Omnibus Press). A whole series of 'disused railway line' photos are in there, but I don't see this particular photo. There are also lots of other very nice shots of the band as they were emerging into the world/spotlight, as well (some familiar, some delightfully unfamiliar).

    Cheers,
