I know its trivial, but I was watching the news coverage here in New York like I'm sure everyone else around the world is. I was flipping around the channels, and I came across a montage of the horrific footage from New York City with "This Is Not Your Country" by Morrissey playing over the montage. Specifically, they were playing the part "and I'm scared...in my own country". This was right before they broke for commercial. It was a very powerful combination of imagery and sound. It was truly chilling. I believe it was ABC News.

  • for a couple of reasons. The song is about the British [insert word here which reflects your political outlook on this issue] of [the]* North[en/ of]* Ireland.

But the title of the song is taken from Romper Stomper: the antihero, Hando (?) says it in the first screen just before pulping a couple of vietnamese kids in a subway.

  • Morrissey taken out of context again? I think so many people don't get what 'This is Not your Counrty' is about (as stated above- Northern Ireland). Pretty depressing song though. So it fits the scene.

  • This whole scenario has creeped me out considerably!! I recently purchased a Morrissey cd called "Rare Tracks". One of the tracks just happens to be the one as seen on t.v. I knew it was about england, but I still cried when he sung about being afraid of one's homeland. It's been really hard trying to escape the American flag lately. Beacause what once stood for honor and freedom to me, is now replaced with the sense of fear for my country. I really don't think it was very professional of Abc news to use Morrissey's song to describe an American tragedy without even taking the time to read into the songs true meaning. I'm sorry if anyone find's this discompassionate, it was not my position to do so.
