The VU and Nico at number sixty?

Even lists have audience’s these days, and I think the gatekeepers are telling our generation to f*** off.

AM should definitely be on the list. Alex is a talented word smith with a very 'northern' outlook on life, and clearly very inspired by Morrissey. I think Morrissey knows that, which is why he made that line about 'not wanting to upset anyone's nan' when he said something bitchy about them in an interview. Some of their stuff is timeless.

The look of love, the rush of blood
The "She's with me"'s, the Gallic shrug
The shutterbugs, the Camera Plus
The black & white and the colour dodge
The good time girls, the cubicles
The house of fun, the number one
Party anthem...

Isn’t the one real Morrissey on the list enough?

If Viva Hate doesn’t make this list, that’ll just prove how ridiculously idiotic these lists are.

Next 10 are announced:

50. Hounds of Love, Kate Bush.
49. The Joshua Tree, U2.
48. Paul’s Boutique, Beastie Boys.
47. Take Care, Drake.
46. Exodus, de Boy Marley & The Wailers.
45. Homogenic, Björk.
44. Innervisions, Stevie Wonder.
43. Remain in Light, Talking Heads.
42. Control, Janet Jackson.
41. Aquemini, OutKast

Some more wonderful records in those 10, but I've never, ever understood the appeal of that Janet Jackson album (or any of her stuff). It just sounds so horrifically of its era, and overproduced, and - ugh. Maybe just bad memories, I guess.

We might see another Smiths album in the list somewhere - but probably not, and probably not a Morrissey album. I live to be pleasantly surprised. Although I'm mostly truly disappointed.

There's more chance of seeing a Gary Glitter album on a list like this than a Morrissey album, at this point...

I think they should but not with AM, I think Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not is an incredible debut album, which is still the fastest selling debut album of all time in the UK. I saw them play a few times around Sheffield back in the day and thought they were great, unfortunately since Favourite Worst Nightmare I've not been too keen on anything they've released.
The aesthetic of the Arctic Monkeys, at least in the early days, could have been lifted straight off The Smiths' South Bank Show documentary.

Control by Janet Jackson is ranked higher than the Queen is Dead. That pretty much sums up the validity of this thing.

Their use of so many samples may be ingenious. And, yeah, I bought Licensed to ill on cassette when it came out. But for me, it wasn’t ‘till Check Your Head, etc.. that they really got it together.

Yeah, Check Your Heads when folks started gettin' back into'em,
'cause when Paul's Boutique came out, the Beastie Boys were
kinda considered to be a joke.
The only reason I got Paul's Boutique, was 'cause Rolling Stone
gave it a 5 star review and it seemed kinda intriguin'.
I ended up lovin' it, but most folks coulda cared less.
Then every once in awhile, ya would find someone else who
loved Paul's Boutique and it would be kind of a secret club
or somethin'.
Yeah, it was weird 'cause the Beastie Boys went from havin' a
super hit record with Licensed To Ill, to havin' a super underground
record with Paul's Boutique.

Fairly insipid, bland list that mainly caters to MOR chart music. Sade at 61? Come on...
