What's Everyone Reading At The Moment?

The decade became the decade of the television series

Tableau viewing is declining and the range of streaming services is increasing. It has been a long time since "everyone" watched the same television program at the same time.
It is said that the function of the TV media and TV series as a campfire and conversation topic around which we all gather has disappeared during the 10th century.

But is that really true? I think people hardly talk about anything else - TV shows have become the new weather when talking about long heat waves and rainy days become too charged in the wake of the climate crisis. In addition, the topic of conversation is developable. If we have not seen the same series or come as far into the action, we can tell each other about good series and maybe even invite to a series marathon at home on the couch.

Looking back over the past decade, there are some TV shows that have become such great snack ice creams that they have affected everything from the daily rhythm to our way of talking and dressing.

Take, for example, the groundbreaking and addictive Norwegian TV series "Skam". The one who started in December 2016 got people of all ages to stay up all night to follow the teen characters Noora, William, Eva, Sana, Isaac and Vilde in their mutual relationships and problems. In Sweden, people started talking Norwegian, and around the world fans made their own translations from the Norwegian and posted on Youtube. Nora's clothing style became fashion and young people and their parents suddenly had lots to discuss.

After all, you can't go past HBO's fantasy epic "Game of Thrones" when talking about 10s and TV series. It has continued throughout the decade. The first season, the most expensive ever recorded, began showing in April 2011 and the last season ended earlier this year. "Game of Thrones" has undoubtedly raised the bar for what a TV series can be and even though many fans were disappointed in the last season, the series is truly a popular cultural milestone.

You can list countless American and British comics that made imprints, such as "Sherlock", "House of Cards", the anthology series "True Detective", "Breaking Bad", "Stranger Things", "The Crown", "The Handmaid´s tale "and popular" Dowton Abbey ".

But in Sweden, it is after all Swedish series that weigh most. Sofia Helin's character Saga Norén in "The Bridge" is unforgettable, as is Nina and Gustaf in "Our time is now". But the one who has really taken a seat in our lives during the 10's is Ove Sundberg as Henrik Dorsin with his "The servant man" has made the decade's worst, slimmest and most welcoming and unwelcome neighbor in Felix Herngren's creation "The Sun Side".

after reading about the damage of the bushfires and drought in australia, i picked up a book again that i read in 2018 when we were hit by a murderous heat wave during the summer months.
the novel was published in 1965 and it very vividly depicts a scenario in the future, one of destruction caused by a worldwide drought. everything i see on tv or social media coming from australia at the moment, reminds me of this novel, there is even the exodus to the coastal areas and beaches. it describes a phase in which the drought has been lasting for such a long time that the energy of human beings in their efforts to survive and fight has slackened and is petering out for good with everybody getting ready to die. so, it's also kind of a post-apocalyptic novel.

the book is of course not "strange and wonderful" but hard-core realistic.

the current apocalypse raging in australia is really upsetting me. i have some family at the east coast but they seem to be out of danger. i stopped waiting for updates on the major news networks and instead started reading facebook posts. the organizations on facebook deliver the real decentralized news about the catastrophe, and they know whats going on.

there seems to be a need for help as their government can only offer some basic patchwork, only so much as not to be accused of disinterested inaction.

reminds me of this other dystopian novel i read a couple of months ago, the tide went out by charles eric maine. he describes how the government officials and their families secretly leave their countries behind, escaping to greenland by plane, while the population has to face the effects of the environmental catastrophe on their own, with no way out.

a very simple but also great novel written from the perspective of a rather naive government man who is able to escape the inferno, hijack the last plane to greenland and is shot down while landing, by those rich and influential who have already made it there.

anyways, i think i've already donated a monthly salary to all sorts of rescue organizations with a focus on wildlife. i can't get the scream of this burnt koala out of my ears, who was sitting on the hot ground, too weak and dehydrated to move on. he later had to be euthanized. i was crying for hours.

when you look at the list of donors on some organizations' websites, you quickly see that the vast majority of donors are indeed women. then take a look at a picture of australia's pm, and you might notice an urgent need to puke onto the steps of your local townhall.

anyways, here are some of the stories shared on facebook.

it was sent to a slaughterhouse afterwards. dead or alive? nobody knows. people heard loud squealing when it fell.

what's next? a baby?

"Animal cruelty is not punishable by law in China. However, there has been growing awareness of animal welfare issues in recent years." Not nearly enough awareness as far as I can see.

I'd probably call them a sub-species, but then I'd probably get slated somewhere......but I probably wouldn't care too much about that.

What sort of f***ing people are they to think this is acceptable, & that the world just might not notice??

Probably. Those loony Chinese commies. The value of any life means zilch there.
Can you say "Soylent Green"? They don't care. It sickens me!

At the current rate, this country is headed in that direction with its high view of abortion courtesy of
the socialist loonies left all around. Islam is there in waiting too. How long will this continue? As long
as there is a pocketbook, only the pocketbook matters. All the irony is sickening. It disgusts me!

How about that turkey drop episode of WKRP in Cincinnati?
I cringe as I already feel the gaze and pain of The Wild T.

the myth of moral outrage

When the news is focused on the systematic violence perpetrated against the children who are locked up in our jails, our intelligence agencies’ intrusions into our private lives, and rocket-attack ceasefires that seem to be broken as quickly as they are brokered, it is easy to forget that the story of Western civilization is actually a story of moral progress. From the abolition of slavery, to legal protections against cruel and unusual punishment, to the slow but steady ebb of interpersonal violence, moral progress has actually been proceeding forward, in fits and starts, for several centuries. How does moral progress happen?
....

i cant remember ever having been protected or supported by other people's moral outrage, and i find the mechanisms underlying moral outrage quite fascinating. so, what makes ppl feel moral outrage nowadays, what obviously does not? moral outrage can be used as a weapon to protect but most often it is employed to harm an alleged perpetrator. it can be real, it can be a fake. as a fake it is often instrumentalized to ignite the mob.
i think it might be interesting to observe and reflect upon what triggers reactions of moral outrage in me and what leaves me completely cold. have i ever allowed myself to be manipulated into moral outrage? is moral outrage the expression of the otherwise powerless and helpless?

The thinking of someone without a moral compass having lost it through socialist ideas that invites decadence and degeneration.

I think she is the perfect example of someone who focuses on things from another perspective to try and deflect from what is really going on.
The fires in Australia and she chose to focus on animals dying but not why they were dying and who was responsible.

The Corona virus and she who just focused on animal rights and their suffering in Australia does not in any way dare to criticise a communist country where animals are not protected in any way and where the disease comes from infected animals.

Are animals always mans best friend?

Of course not!

A majority of animals will kill and eat humans if given the chance. They harbour serious disease in their mouths that will kill most humans within hours if not treated. Animals are not cuddly toys there to cure the wanting of a spinster who refused to have her own children out of hate for men in general.

Animals are not humans or children and they are natural hunters and killers who only feel free and ok when they can act out their natural urges. Maybe a human stopping herself from enjoying her natural urges means she has to control pets from doing the same in some twisted act of control?

We need to liberate animals from humans and humans from animals.

Greta Thunberg is helping Soros and socialism to deflect the fact that they have already fallen and that people of this world have finally realised that socialism did not work and that their personal freedom far outweighs the need for a collective good.

Personal development and opportunity builds welfare not from state run benefits but from personal success where people make their own money. The confidence in the individual is of benefit for any state and country out there.

Nice points. :thumb:
Socialism does not encourage individual autonomy nor personal progress or success. Intrinsically,
it cannot succeed for long in the very nature of its inception. Lest laziness, apathy and indifference
become a pillar of society, dependence will become its only true assurance of salvation.
