Video editing type thingy...

I've been meaning to edit/chop some videos down so they're small enough to stick on my PSP but the only video editing program at my disposal is Windows Move Maker which exports as .wmv's which are not compatible with PSP's so I was wondering if anyone could reccomend me a freeware? Ta.

Well thanks but I already have the converter, you helped me download 'Super' a week ago :) I mean, I want to shorten some clips and in some cases chop bits out of videos, and the only program I know/have to accomplish this is Windows Movie Maker. But when you want to save your newly edited version it saves as .wmv's and no converter (including Super) can convert .wmv's to PSP format (.mp4's) as them two just generally don't get on well :(

So does anyone know a good video editing programme (not a converter)

Whoops, sorry about that, I misread your post! :) In that case, you should try out virtualdub or tmpgenc. Tmpgenc is a bit easier to use IMO.

both free as well, though tmpgenc says it requires a license for certain formats. If you're doing avis, should be just fine though IIRC.

Thanks for the links Jeff, I downloaded both, but VirtualDub is the only one accepting my video. Yet when I've edited my video, if I click 'save as .avi' it keeps trying to export it as some rediculously large file  Do you know how I could get around this, i'm editing a 2gb mpeg yet its trying to export as 66gb avi

yeah, it tries to save as an uncompressed avi, unless you tell it differently. Go to the "video" menu on the toolbar and click "compression", then pick a codec for it to use, then you click save avi. I usually use divx or xvid. Of course you have to have the codec installed for this to work. I use a codec pack called k-lite, from here: http://www.free-codecs.com/K_Lite_Codec_Pack_download.htm
Has every codec I've ever needed for viewing/encoding. I'm not sure how much you know about this stuff, and I'm sure I'm grossly oversimplifying it, heh. Here's a link that goes to the other extreme with far too much detail (and screenshots). Hopefully between the two, you will find a happy medium. :)

A Clarification Please...

I may be able to help, could you please clarify the following....

What format the current video is in (is it all .wmv?)

Do you specifically need the convertor to edit the video, or can you continue with MS MovieMaker as editor and simply use a convertor afterwards to convert to Mpeg?

Is it all music video? or some TV n Film content?

If you can reply to that I should be able to offer you a workable soloution!

Suprisingly this seems so easy now after the nightmare of putting Who put the M, on my IPOD Nano, You have to install Linux, A Movie Player for RAW UNCOMPESSED AVI (20 Mins = 1 GIG) Conversion software, DVD Ripper or putting There is a light on my Mobile Phone in .3gp and a USB Cable!

Thanks for the offer Reggie Pepper but thanks to Jefft's help i got it sorted. I managed to edit with Virtual Dub, exported it as an avi (divx codec) and converted the avi to a mp4 with Super Converter. Meaning I had the Hacienda gig available for me to watch on my PSP for my flight! :D

Oh and I think i prefer the oversimplifying Jeff! :o
