NME's take on Wolverhampton '88

Marr was phoned about playing at this gig? That's kind of a surprise.
Perhaps this was a one-time Morrissey attempt to bury the hatchet, and Johnny wanted no part because he thought it'd drag him back into the stress of the Smiths.

Typically, NME is late for the bus and squiffy with the facts. A year to the date since they last worked together? I suppose the two singles and clutch of B-sides recorded throughout 1988 don't count then. The call to Johnny Marr feels like a speculative hook to jack up the juice in the story. I don't ever recall either commenting on this - and was it Rogan who stated that Johnny had sent Morrissey a congratulatory postcard on the chart success of ...Playboys?
