The NME has announced its top 50 of the year this week. The top of the list reads:

01 Bloc Party
02 Arcade fire
03 Franz Ferdinand
04 Anthony
05 Kaiser Chiefs
06 The White Stripes
07 Sufjan Stevens
08 Kanye West
09 Babyshamblesssssszzzzzzzzzzzz
10 Gorillaz

But apparantly the vote has been rigged:

It doesn't much matter of course but is interesting that, despite going to effort of replying several times in a high handed and defensive manner, NME editor doesn't actually deny the charges. I had it on fairly good authority as early as mid-October that the writers poll had thrown up a top two of Sufjan and the Arcade Fire. It looks like the editor doesn't feel he can promote an 'articulate fop' movement (especially one that is happening on indie labels) and has organised a Florida-style recount to keep the advertisers happy.
