You don't know that Morrissey did not own Sanctuary.

Sanctuary had been closed down due to financial problem which was not Morrissey's fault.

There is a specific time line stated on majority of business contracts which is fair for the both parties.

Some unlucky bands / artists such as XTC had been trapped in an unfair deal which financially deprived them.
Also a very famous female artist who is still trapped in such a deal, but she can't go to court because of the contract.

Morrissey read many biographies of bands / artists during his formative years which made him unable to trust people in entertainment industry, keeps switching his agent.
