Morrisssey-solo redesign

Update (Feb. 3): More database instability and some recent items on the site missing after repair.

Update: Database errors have cleared. Some posts/comments from around 11am to 3pm PT were corrupted.

Update: Avatars were repaired. Still some instability as I see some posts are disappearing. Looking into it.

Update: Not the smoothest of starts, the database crashed shortly after the launch. I was able to repair it but users lost their avatars. Sorry about that, let me know if you get any other errors.

Welcome to the new, simplified Morrissey-solo. The move went smoothly for the most part, please report any problems in the Site Feedback forum or to [email protected].

vBulletin is now the main platform of the site, it has been powering the forums since 2006. With the features of the latest upgrade all the content on the site is now managed through it. In addition to the forums, this includes the main page articles, tour info and image gallery. As mentioned previously archived pages dating back to the start of the site should remain accessible.

With the new system, the main page articles should be more continuously updated as opposed to the previous bunch of stories every few days or so. Moderators will have a more active role now in managing the main page as time goes on. I'd like to thank Uncleskinny and Kewpie in particular for their continuing help in highlighting stories for the main page. Thanks also to the many contributors of the site that send in stories large and small. I am under no illusion that there would be much of a site to work on without you.

In the past year or two since the forums moved to vBulletin most news and items of interest originate in the forums so this integration is a natural evolution of the site. The recent content management additions made by the vBulletin team work well so far.

Some new features:
  • Facebook integration - link your existing account or create an account using Facebook.
  • Chat room - java based version.
  • Blogs - replace journals.
  • Several forum enhancements including the desired 'YouTube button'.
Removed forum features:
  • Ignore thread - not supported on this version currently.
  • The "Morrissey Reddit" box - removed as articles can be promoted to the main page by moderators more frequently.
There are still several optimizations I plan to include. The vBulletin platform has a lot of support and options so please feel free to make suggestions. Adjustments will be ongoing.

Thanks a million David for all this. We all miss Solo when it was off for the upgrade, now it is back!!!!
Cheers Moz

Also would suggest reversing the lighter brown in the sidebar column with the slightly darker brown in the main body. We're an aging fan-base, and darker colors beneath the main text are getting harder to read!

I modified the main body background to be lighter so should be a bit more readable now. Thanks for the suggestion!

I posted yesterday, but it seems to be gone. Anyway, thanks for all the hard work David.

Yes, please send a screenshot.

Sorry, disregard my previous comment on the width. I was looking at the site before the second story went up and assumed that it was a one column with sidebar layout, but now I see it's two columns with sidebar. So what I thought was a display or broswer error was just the absence of content.

This site is like a dream, by that I mean things are as they were and completely different, all at once.
I must say, I am lost on this site now....but then I get lost in Tesco too.

Please how can I delete not just the messages people have sent me but also there names and profile pics that are left behind

I'm sure you're aware, but there are some entries in the Calendar that's turning up missing. Other than that, everything seems fine to me.

No I didn't see that. I see some events in Feb. Which entries are you think of and were they added recently?

I know that some have said it looks fine on iPhone and Android, but it looks awful on my Blackberry. On threads with multiple pages the lines of text get squashed to make it hard / impossible to read the titles of threads

Is this a problem with the site, or with my phone?

And, can we have the blue back, I never liked the Brown...

There is a mobile version coming within a couple weeks. I'll work on getting a default blue version up also.

I quite like the colour scheme. Though I must admit that I feel a bit lost with the new layout. To me it's a bit 'wild' (for lack of a better word), it appears less clear, less structured to me.
I don't mean to criticise though, instead I want to make a suggestion:
Would it be possible to have a column at the side with all the recent new topics (instead of all the recent comments)? I really liked that about the old site: the way you could with one glance, without any scrolling, see all the latest topics & how many comments there were in each topic. I don't know if it's technically possible to do this here at all, but if it was, I'd find that a big improvement.
In any case congratulations to the relaunch & thank you for all the effort you're putting into this & for being open for suggestions. :)

I was quite confused at the beginning, but now I'm actually enjoying the new Morrissey-solo look.
Congratulations and thank you,David. We really appreciate the work you've been doing for so long now.
All the best for you.
