I don't see any attraction in Bob Dylan, i don't know if it's whining voice or his crap hairdo or whatever but anyway the BBC are going mad about him.
On Radio 5 this afternoon they were saying he was the greatest songwriter ever, in my opinion that's John Lennon, some others who contacted radio 5 said Bowie and someone with sense said Morrissey.

Hey, I don't think he's that bad. After all, this is just BBC Radio 2 and the Arena crew but for some of us, some of those interviews are worth the wait if only for a little snippet of news now that he forgot. And then the UK footage from the early 60s showing Dylan's change of musical direction - and new band -beggars belief !

Your rolling stone,

Hazard.

Dylan was great, in the entire decade of 60's US artists, there was Dylan, the Velvet Underground and maybe Elvis that totally stand alone today.

I think Dylan was an unusual figure in his time. His folk songs may have been similiar to maybe Woody Guthrie but taken a step further with alot of strange lyrical phrasing. His major accomplishment to me was "Like a Rolling Stone". That song alone defines how a modern pop song should sound like.

Funny you mention Lennon. It was Dylan who influenced Lennon to give up formula songwriting and try to do more introspective songs. Lennon cites "You Got To Hide Your Love Away" as him "trying to be Dylan." Lennon then turned Dylan on to translate his style to appeal to a pop audience because Lennon believed pop was the language of youth.

I like most of his songs, but I like his songs best when covered by different artists. I seem to hear the song better that way.

WRONG You cannot hear a Bob Dylan song sung by anyone other than Bob Dylan.
Forget the voice, listen beyond the somewhat grating voice.
The best interpretation of any song is sung by the lyricist.
I watched the Arena programme tonight and found his duet with Joan Baez excrutiating, far far better performed solo.
Wow does that woman sing out of tune and destroy the whole meaning.

John Lennon was still nothing without McCartney in the formative years.

Bryan fox hunting Ferry's version of "A hard rain is gonna fall" is better than Dylans.

Rod Stewart's version of "Handbags and Gladrags" is better than Mike d'Abos, as was his version of "Oh no not my baby".

Supercillious I know, but I remember.

In a nutshell you are more than likely under 20 years of age.

Dont bother returning when you are 40 plus to discuss Dylan, I wont be here, sadly for you, neither will he.

Franz Ferdinand might.

I don't really understand him either. My sister and mum like him but I'm not into it.
