Well, there were some interesting bits in there.
The Roy's Keen bit was news to me.
Strummer info too.
Alain's willingness to participate in things like this is forever to his credit.
Regards,
FWD.

Don’t remember if I ever heard about M wanting to cover ‘I Can’t Explain’.

Would have been nice, I can hear it.

Does anyone know who the French poet is that inspired ‘Trouble Loves Me’ ?
The name Arthur Rimbaud springs to mind.
All the Morrissey hallmarks and a colourful life outside of his writing too.
I haven't time to dig through his works, but my money is on him.
Regards,
FWD.

Via Patti I’m sure.

Seems Alain’s friend accused M of lifting lines from a poem.

Yes, as far as I know it is new news.
Alain also said Strummer wanted to produce an EP. In Morrissey's notes it sounded like he was supposed to produce an album ("Joe Strummer expressed interest in producing Maladjusted, [...]")

I am intrigued to read that Pigsty (at least the music) was written around this time.
So glad that Alma Matters landed in Morrissey's hands. I wasn't a fan of it at first, but the tune has really grown on me over the years.

Actually, sorry: take that back, Strummer himself mentioned The Who track 20 years ago:

JR: I remember when they did that tour, yeah. Bowie was covering his song "I Know It's Gonna Happen Someday", which was a rip-off of Bowie's "Rock n' Roll Suicide", which itself was no coincidence, since Mick Ronson produced that LP for Morrissey. So I am sure he was very serious about having you produce him. He likes working with his old heroes. You know he wrote a book on The New York Dolls before he was in The Smiths. I bet he would ask Thunders to produce him if he was still alive!

Joe: Ahh, but I wasn't having it. The whole situation was beginning to piss me off. And his manager, it was a lady at the time, she came to me before the show and said, "So, what do you think?" And I said [snaps fingers], because I knew what he wanted to do. He wanted to cover "Can't Explain", that was part of the initial phone message. And I tried to imagine Morrissey singing "Got a feelin' inside". And I thought this was a stupid idea! So I said, "No, no. I've got a plan for Morrissey." And they went "what is it?", I said, "Let's have him cover 'Pop Music' by M."

Had to dust that quote before using it :)

Surely, Strummer was taking the piss when he mentioned 'Pop Music' by M. is a suitable cover for Morrissey? It's way too modern and too rubbish for Morrissey.

But U2 did cover Pop Music as a lengthy b-side and as the grandiose intro to their Popmart shows in 1997.
