The Moz/Smiths Top 100, Part 253: BORN TO HANG

I think their intentions are quite different. It's the same as comparing a hard-house CD to a Bob Dylan track - utterly pointless as they're not meant to be representing the same thing. 'Fatty' is a jokey pop song, 'Speedway' is not.

Download campaign to give Moz a #1 song -- Can it work like it worked for Rage?

Disagree strongly. What it would show is that a lot of Morrissey fans have too much time on their hands. If Morrissey comes back with an amazing single that smashes into the top spot THAT is impressive - a campaign to get an old song there means nothing.

Download campaign to give Moz a #1 song -- Can it work like it worked for Rage?

My arguments against are the same as against Rage - Morrissey wouldn't have got to the top of the charts, he'd have been put there. Nobody who was going to buy Joe McElderry's single suddenly changed their mind when they heard the Rage song for the first time. Is there any point being on the top...

"The Queen's Speech": Morrissey on 2009, TTY

Re: Morrissey on 2009, TTY I've always been a fan of Lady BlahBlah when lazily slagging her off, it just rolls off the tongue easier. And yes, I do think that at the moment Lady Gaga is putting a lot more effort into her music and being a 'pop star' than Morrissey is at the moment.

"The Queen's Speech": Morrissey on 2009, TTY

AYNIM is a brilliant song, no two ways about it. Trouble is I loved it when I got the Greatest Hits album, so was sorta bored of it by the time I got to YoR. Still one of my faves though. SISMS is a very good example of what I'm talking about though. There is nothing bad about it, it's a good...

"The Queen's Speech": Morrissey on 2009, TTY

Re: Morrissey on 2009, TTY Firstly, note my wink - I was being a touch cheeky, but I generally stand by what I said. I actually am, what some would call, a new Morrissey fan, coming in just after ROTT was released, so I wouldn't say I'm clinging to a Morrissey that I grew up with. The...

"The Queen's Speech": Morrissey on 2009, TTY

It's true, and I don't want to be what is called on the internet a "hater", but when something like "That's How People Grow Up" gets released officially three times you can't help but wish for something more. I, generally speaking, would regard Morrissey as more than someone producing just...

"The Queen's Speech": Morrissey on 2009, TTY

Re: Morrissey on 2009, TTY Going through a very commercial (Gaga, Lily Allen, PSB) pop phase at the moment, can understand if some people don't like it, but check out my last.fm below. Become a bit disillusioned with "alternative/indie" music at the moment, but if someone could recommend...

"The Queen's Speech": Morrissey on 2009, TTY

Re: Morrissey on 2009, TTY It's funny isn't it, because I absolutely believe that YoR is one of the worst albums of Morrissey's career - not because there is anything that bad on there, but because it is absolutely tired and uninspiring. The songs are nice enough to listen to, but they don't...

"The Queen's Speech": Morrissey on 2009, TTY

Re: Morrissey on 2009, TTY I am, don't worry. LOADS more than YoR as well. It's just we all know how utterly amazing Morrissey can be, so when he's not it is devastating.

"The Queen's Speech": Morrissey on 2009, TTY

Re: Morrissey on 2009, TTY I find it rather funny. Can't be held responsible for taste, or other people's lack of it ;) I realise he's still promoting YoR, but the fact the last three have been about diminishing returns is what worries me, as well as the quite finalistic "I am no longer...

"The Queen's Speech": Morrissey on 2009, TTY

Interesting that 'Swords' was only meant to be a mid-priced budget release. I think we could have all been happy with that, and it would have addressed all the money-grabbing complaints? More saddenning that he thinks YoR is among the best things he's ever done. :tears:

Years of Refusal: #43 on MySpace's Best of 2009

I think I need to re-listen to YoR (again!) in a desperate attempt to see the genius other people are seeing. I personally would've thought 43 is way too high (and no I can't name 42 better ones off the top of my head, but it just sounds wrong). I wished I like the album, but for such a...

    Morrissey intoxicated?

I'm sure it's all-but on record that Morrissey's diet is extremely unhealthy. Seem to remember him once saying that most of his diet was crisps, chocolate or anything white.

The Moz/Smiths Top 100, Part 244: WHEN LAST I SPOKE TO CAROL

What's the best live vesion? And who's made the best fan-art single cover? :-p

The Moz/Smiths Top 100, Part 249: I'M OK BY MYSELF

It's thoroughly "alright". Nothing special really. I honestly believe that if this was the very first Morrissey album then we'd never hear from him again, due to songs like this.

    Favourite Unreleased Track?

Toss up between 'Please Help The Cause...' or 'Playing Easy To Get'. Chose 'The Cause' because it was nice to uncover a bouncy and fun track.
