    why hasn't morrissey toured africa?

Hah! Message board comedy rarely gets a laugh out of me, but this one caught me off guard.

Download campaign to give Moz a #1 song -- Can it work like it worked for Rage?

Downloading a track and posting a message or tweet takes time? 10 minutes tops. The problem is so many Morrissey fans (a disproportionate amount on here?) moan about the new singles and go on and on about what once was. I don't have that problem -- I love it all -- but it's more realistic to...

Download campaign to give Moz a #1 song -- Can it work like it worked for Rage?

The charts themselves may be meaningless but whatever hits #1 still gets ink in the press, especially in a case like this (though do we really need more badly written articles about our Moz?). Despite the highly manufactured nature of Rage's win there's an element of revolution to it -- like...

Download campaign to give Moz a #1 song -- Can it work like it worked for Rage?

So if people download a track through a UK website but reside (IP address) outside it doesn't count? Haven't followed the whole story but are there that many Rage fans in the UK? Most of the people who like that brand of music now weren't born or were barely out of the crib when that track...

Download campaign to give Moz a #1 song -- Can it work like it worked for Rage?

Been out of the loop for a while but was shocked today to hear Rage's Killing in the Name (an undeniably thunderous track whatever your taste in music) is #1 in the UK due to a Facebook campaign to beat out X-factor's latest dross. Sure Sony (and by extension Cowell) still win in the end, but I...

"The Queen's Speech": Morrissey on 2009, TTY

Re: Morrissey on 2009, TTY I was about to write my own response and then read this and thought "Yes!"

The Moz/Smiths Top 100, Part 249: I'M OK BY MYSELF

As positive as Moz has always been about Jerry Finn, he wasn't shy about saying that Finn had no interest in this track and mixed it without passion despite Morrissey giving it is all in the vocal booth. I agree that his vocal outro is one of his best bits of non-verbal singing in the whole...

    The Moz/Smiths Top 100, Part 248: SORRY DOESN'T HELP

As I've mentioned a couple of times before, this track is a real grower -- but you have to give it a chance. The first few listens it really screamed "filler" but it has its charms. I like the plaintive guitar rawk intro and the (painfully simple) arpeggios. Yes, it's 2D Jesse but it has a...

    Movies for Morrissey fans

Sidney J. Furie's The Leather Boys is a great one. Really captures the sexual ambiguity Morrissey is (in)famous for.

The Moz/Smiths Top 100, Part 245: ONE DAY GOODBYE WILL BE FAREWELL

I think this simple, heartfelt line saves the song from some admittedly lazy lyrics. But like almost all of YoR, they're sung with such conviction that I go with them. Horns are definitely needed every time this song is played.

The Moz/Smiths Top 100, Part 244: WHEN LAST I SPOKE TO CAROL

When was Mozmic Dancer's video first posted? Amazing job! As a great fan of Leone, Morricone, and spaghetti westerns in general the song (and the video!) capture that cinematic world perfectly. If you wanted to be really cheeky you could re-edit the shots of the woman's eyes to be Kristeen...

    Bowie's I know it's gonna happen someday

Never thought of it before, but it's a crying shame there was no crossover between Lennon and Morrissey in their careers. I think Lennon would've probably dismissed Morrissey if asked in an interview but secretly been a fan. Whatever you think of Macca, I liked hearing him mention Moz' name...

    Bowie's I know it's gonna happen someday

Never seen the video before. By all rights it should be a good cover, but there's something not quite right about it... You have Bowie covering a song that was already channelling his own past work. This kind of thing leads to mad cow.

The Moz/Smiths Top 100, Part 242: MAMA LAY SOFTLY ON THE RIVERBED

A very strong album track and a call to arms when played live. At this point a good number of fans are probably tired of yet more "money-men" and "bailiffs" populating Morrissey's narrative, but I'd say that this is the best of all the songs that tackle Joycegate. As you know I regularly...

First time ever hearing morrissey saying f***

True, but some did agree with the heckler that the "joke" made fun of his home town. All this BS is just that -- enjoy Morrissey while he's still writing new songs and touring. It's not going to last forever.

First time ever hearing morrissey saying f***

I'm surprised anybody on the main page actually thinks the "Hamburgist" comment/joke was in any way an insult to local people. Morrissey is saying "let's call you something more flattering than the meat product I most despise". You could give the English-as-a-second-language heckler the...

First time ever hearing morrissey saying f***

Re: First time ever hearing morrissey saying 'f***' It was quite calm and delivered in those dulcet tones. If someone told Morrissey to f*** off (in all seriousness) from the audience and he did nothing I'd be disappointed. Enjoyed that, thanks.

    NME - Babybird slates Morrissey

I really did think they disappeared in around 97. I actually don't mind if people of stature take a shot at Moz -- he's a big boy that can defend himself, but when bit players in the music industry try it makes me laff.
