I think you are taking all this far too seriously. Remember that Morrissey's statement was addressed to his fans, as those are the people whose opinion he cares about. If you know Morrissey is not a racist why would you care what people like Ross think?
I'm sure I've read plenty of stories where he's signed Smiths stuff. One I can think of in particular is Abrahan's story of when he met him outside his house in LA.
I think he might not like putting his name anywhere near Mike Joyce's though. ;)
Particularly if it happens at a certain critical stage in your development. I don't think Morrissey would have been seen as much of a "catch" on the streets of Manchester in the seventies. This was way before "geek chic" remember. That's bound to stay with you. So what, if he then became famous...
Does anyone know anything about this documentary he's meant to be doing with Russell Brand. Last I heard of it was about a month ago, Russell saying on his show that he thought it would be happening.
I think that is the only rational way to look at it. For people to try and pretend Morrissey is this person who has a perfectly normal romantic life but manages to escape exposure by make these amazing judgements on character just defies common sense. Particularly as he seems to dramatically...
Except people are on record saying that Hogg was a nasty piece of work and a backstabber.
And one of the people who said that has left Morrissey's employ and has never seen fit to betray Morrissey by slagging him off to anyone. Spencer's behaviour has been the very model of discretion. So if...
I sort of disagree with you there Worm. I think Morrissey would be inclined to say to someone "give up". What I get very strongly from Morrissey is he really does abhor people trying to fit in and following the crowd.
To be honest I just think this song is just an example of bad writing. He was trying to make a sympathetic statement by being ironic, but he just didn't do it well enough. He got the tone slightly wrong. Perhaps he was just a bit too glib.
But the critics will look for a malicious meaning in...
I agree but I think in some way that's the NME's fault for the way they have presented it. I don't agree with all that Morrissey said but
I don't think for one second he was falling in line with that tabloid/BNP way of thinking. More or less everything he said, he then said the opposing point...
Yes, but Morrissey gives his designer shirts away, so he's obviously into redistribution of wealth.
Whereas Clapton probably hoards his like a right old Tory. :p
So basically Morrissey took him along for everyone to take the piss out of? :D Poor bloke.
Though I suppose if he was a horrible backstabber he deserved it.

I thought this link deserved a thread of it's own.
I must say this debate around Morrissey has made me think in this way too. I'm not really bothered about "British identity" and I've always been very left leaning in the...
I hope you are right Worm.
I never understood that "He has some racist friends" bit. What did they mean? His fans? His band? People around him? How did they get away with saying it when they didn't have any names?
But Worm, don't you think that he'd prefer to get them to back down now rather than have to go to court? It seems a bit illogical to wait months to show your hand rather than hit them with it now and get it all over.
I think it's more a matter of interpretation. Morrissey remembers the...
