What is the original song that the classic Morrissey chant is done to?

So, Stars and Stripes Forever is the(?) source for the tune, but probably the Morrissey chant is more immediately influenced by English football chants with the same tune/cadence: You're welcome, Love America

"I don't bless them" QID intro meaning?

Thanks everyone for your replies. Very helpful. I see now that my lyrics sites including Passions Just Like Mine have "by land, by sea." It doesn't seem to be a literary reference, but "by land, by sea, by air" is sometimes used to refer to postal services. Best explanation I can find is from...

"I don't bless them" QID intro meaning?

Has anyone seen anything written on the significance of the voice saying "I don't bless them" at the beginning of the Queen is Dead? And who is the voice?

London - The SSE Arena Wembley (Mar. 14, 2020) post-show

After searching forever, I finally found one of the pre-show (pre-videos) songs from this tour, which had even evaded my Shazam app: Musik by Marianne Mendt. I should have known to check Eurovision entries from the 60s and 70s. Enjoy.

'How Soon is Now' new cover version in The Crown trailer?

Is it this? by Nauvy & Sauvane. sounds really good. Surprised to see Morrissey and Marr signed off to let the song appear on a show about the monarchy. [edit: I think this is not the cover used in the trailer, but sounds similar. Maybe they commissioned a cover just for the trailer, because I...

"I still cannot speak French..." (Moz & foreign films)

Maybe someone more knowledgeable about cinema can help me with this one. If Morrissey was watching L'insoumis and other French films as well as Passolini and Italian-language films back in the 80s and 90s... were these films produced with subtitles in those decades? Or did he just watch for the...

Paris 24/09/2020 cancellation confirmed by Morrissey's cousin

I'm not sure what his official position is, but basically he seems to be the one overseeing all the tour support. He manages things well as far as I can tell, and always tries to help work out any issues with the early queue if there are multiple entrances or whatever. Lil' Sammy, on the other...

Paris 24/09/2020 cancellation confirmed by Morrissey's cousin

Like everyone else, I’m puzzled as to why no official statement has been issued. Especially since info about Las Vegas, Israel, and New York has been updated. I can only guess maybe there is some strange legal issue with the venue that prevents Morrissey from making an official announcement...

Paris 24/09/2020 cancellation confirmed by Morrissey's cousin

I think Jay is the tour manager or some position like that. We always see him going in and out of the venue when we queue. Didn't know he was Morrissey's cousin.

New Paris date - Sep. 24, 2020 according to email from Salle Pleyel

Israel has already been moved to 2021. Really puzzling that Paris hasn't been officially cancelled or rescheduled (again) at this point, since it seems cannot possibly be held and Israel, New York, and now Las Vegas have been rescheduled or indefinitely postponed.

New Paris date - Sep. 24, 2020 according to email from Salle Pleyel

Apparently the rescheduled Paris date of September 24 still hasn’t been cancelled. I can’t imagine this show will actually go on though.

"How Soon is Now" - Popcorn Venus source request

Dear practising troublemakers, Would anyone happen to have the book "Popcorn Venus" by Marjorie Venus, the source for the title "How Soon is Now?" I would like to see the context of the passage as a whole. Most sources quote, "How immediately can we be gratified? How soon is now?” and not that...

Louder Than War: Morrissey: SSE Arena Wembley, London – live review (March 19, 2020)

Thanks to this piece for identifying one of the pre-show clips as from the film The Caretaker (1963) based on the Harold Pinter play "The Guest." The pre-show clip starts around 39:40 ("I've got your bag..."): Otherwise, I'm sorry to say, the article is uninformed. The writer admits that they...

IANADOAC - lyrics discussion thread (now with added lyrics!)

I remember reading somewhere in the autobiography about how growing up he was somewhat puzzled by attention he got from girls (compare Pretty Girls Make Graves: "she wants it now..."). He must have realized he was very good-looking at some point. Of course there are scattered lyrics to being or...

London - The SSE Arena Wembley (Mar. 14, 2020) post-show

The setlist debates seem to come up in every thread for every show. Most performing artists who are still producing new material naturally play mainly songs from their most recent albums. Morrissey is no different and his setlists have always been dominated by songs from recent albums. 9 out of...

yes! forgot to say in the Wembley post, but i'll say it here because it's relevant to the pre-show videos. Among the banter at Wembley: "Thank God for Youtube... otherwise... where else would you hear these songs?" referring to his own songs.
