I have only posted once on this site before though I do regularly (ok then, every day) take a look to find out the latest thing on Steven Patrick.
News reaches me though via my new girlfriends' sister that Mozser has gone and retired. Her mates mum is "apparently" good friends with SPM'S sister and the word is, so-called, out.

Now I know this rumour is around and that the story may appear a little far-fetched, but I am just reporting back on what i have been told.
I truly hope this is another rumour-monger and sincerely believe he has, at least, one more great album in him but he did say before 'Maladjusted' that he was planning on one, maybe two more LP's. I don't know if this has been documented.

Anyway, I wanted to pass this on to the reasonably-minded fans on this site as I would hope someone else to do for me.

By the way, I live in Bolton (15 miles from Manchester) and was out in the city that is the hometown of the "least likely" and the girls mentioned are all from Manchester.

Here's hoping this is another blag.
Either way, I apologise for this info.

Martin

  • These rumours just keep coming round and around every single day.
I for one, am sick to death of it.
Until there is any official comment on the situation, please please please keep your silly gossip to yourselves.

  • Morrissey will not retire. The idea that he will is a rumour that's circulated since 1993. Bit of a false rumour so far, I'd say.

  • The smiths was ended forcibly by NME.
If NME didn't say Johnny quit,The dissolution of the Smiths might not have been able to be writhed so much.

    I say again,
The smiths was ended forcibly by NME.

media and fans have strange force.
I hope Morrissey will not retire by rumor.

If moz really think about retirement,I admit but I think nobody don't have to say this another moz.

media and fans have strange force.

  • he will never be by montreal again, so whether he retires or not is pretty moot at this point. canada was never really his thing.....damnit all!!!

hope he doesn't hang it up though.

  • he's back...he's retired...he's back...he's retired...he's back....he's retired....he's back...he's retired.

and if there is a new album for this year, they must be working on it either now or very soon for it to come out this year, right? would he have that much material stored up somewhere or would that be too soon after all of the touring?

  • Why do we have to keep reading this useless bulls***! I am not interested in reading what is exactly catagorised as "rumour". What is the point? If you don't know this as fact then why would you have the perverse interest in posting such hearsay, is it just to wind everyone up?

David, why are you putting this as a headline story? We want facts not gossip. Morrissey's life has been surrounded by gossip about one thing or another but usually by people who don't respect him. Why on a web site that is supposed to respect him and pay tribute to him waste time posting obvious gossip that has no factual groundings, knowing that the only purpose it will serve is to upset and wind people up.

    WHY?

    ENOUGH

    WE WANT FACTS!

  • I think someone has already said it. Let us ALL take a reality check here. Morrissey has just had the most successfule year of his recording life, Why would he hang up his mic yet? It would be madness to do so. We had nothing new for SEVEN years for God's sake and we all still believed didn't we? Morrissey won't go yet. A new and younger audience loves him despite the fact that some people in the older guard think this is not correct but without new fans he will die as a recording artist surely. If things are being posted for the sake of deate then that shows the way this site is going. Too many people bitching about nothing. If Morrissey DID have the time OR inclination to read this site he would probably think "Why do I bother?"

  • Or something like that, anyway. He never gives straight statements, always preferring to keep people guessing, or allowing them to make up their own minds. Look at the effect it has on his fans; everyone's getting so worked up about these retirement rumours. Did everyone get this worked up when he wasn't doing anything much for those 7 odd years? I quite like the suspense - it's far less boring than knowing his every move! But I'm sure many will disagree...

  • I didn't want to say anything, but...
My sisters friends cats accountants uncle is 'apparently' very close with Morrissey's dry cleaner, and I have it on good authority that Moz will NOT retire.
That should end all the speculation.

  • Let's hope Dublin was not the last gig ever. But after just watching Hulmerist for the 1,000th time, I'm curious to know if a future FINAL gig was ever anounced, when would people start lining up? I for one will travel from the US West coast to this last gig & will line up days before. Yes, I am crazy and have no life:)

  • Old "news" (Score:1, Insightful)

Months ago, it was bandied about that full tours are out because it's just not worth it and the fans are not there in certain places Moz knows. But the "word" was that he will continue gigs in LA, NYC, Paris, London, and other major cities.
Anyway, this just sounds like another version of what was going around months ago.
Also, I offer this as evidence that "final" tours are never really final. Barbra Streisand has done a few and is now planning a few special engagements ... and Cher is STILL on her final world tour ... for three friggin' years.
    He'll be back!

  • but if moz only did a few gigs a year, in places like l.a., nyc, and london...i'm sure we'd always be guaranteed incredible, high energy, fanatical performances. this would assure that the maximum number of fans from the maximum number of places would be trying to get out to these shows, which would be both good and bad. either way, they would surely be exciting spectacles.

  • He may well have told his sister that he was retiring from touring.

But then he may have just been in that mood at the time.

The following day he may have changed his mind.

fickle thing the mind. a few words don't have to be set in concrete.

My opinion, he'll be back after a short break.

let's allow the man to get his breath back after a huge tour.
