the site that "broke" the pixies reunion is now saying that the smiths are going to be confirmed for coachella. Obviously this isnt going to happen as the entire band would never play together and I personally doubt that this is true, but I guess it isnt that hard to believe that moz and marr would perform a set together. Anyways, here's the link... --- annie sends the link: from productshopnyc.com: Jan. 21, 2005 it has to be a rumor?!?! "This comes from a firsthand source that has proven to be very accurate for the last few years (They're the ones that tipped me off to The Pixies and well, the entire line-up last year). I, personally, just can't believe that this is all true becuase it's just to mega. It's to collasal. It's to unbelievable. Anway, here's the biggest Coachella scoop that I could ever possibly imagine getting if it's true: On saturday, Jay-Z will be appearing with Lincoln Park and you can also expect to see Shirley Manson getting nasty with Garbage. Then on Sunday, they've supposedly confirmed Bjork, Prince, and hold it.....The Smiths! I shit you fucking not! I don't know if it's just Moz and Marr or if it's an actual reunion, but the hottest gossip ever is that Coachella is about to announce that The Smiths will be playing a headlining reunion show on sunday evening! I know this has been one of the most piss-poor rumors for years, but it seem that this time it may actually be true. If it didn't come from this one and only source, I would never believe it, but fuck man, is this is true. I will fucking faint........."

Anyway, although we'd all love to see Moz and Marr together again, I think some of the rabid excitement about a smiths reunion has worn off...for me at least.
Now that Moz has been playing his Smiths classics in quantity and with regularity...do we really care as much?
The Lads did quite a good job with HSIN, Shoplifters, TIALTNGO, Rubber Ring, and most of the rest from this past tour.
Only Headmaster Ritual came off consistantly a bit weak sounding.
Now, if they were talking about writing together again, that might be something to get rabid about...
Well, let the speculation begin.

I think this is something he (understandably) feels strongly about, and I don't think Coachella will make him change his mind.
Plus, Coachella sucks sooooo hard!
BUT, all that being said, if it ends up being true, and tickets are still available, I'll be there. I just have a hard time believing that the Smiths would reunite at an American festival.

You are surely aware that Morrissey, wrongly or rightly, utterly loathes Mike Joyce. You should also be aware that Johnny Marr hates Mike Joyce almost as much. Even the 'Smiths' musical due this summer has been described, by Morrissey, as a musical featuring the Morrissey/Marr songs. Were you not aware of the phenomenal commercial success of YRTQ which therefore removes any commercial interest that Morrissey might have otherwise had in reforming the band?
In posting these ridiculous rumours, you are exposing yourself as a complete and utter fool.

Moz has dropped the goodbye hints on his recent tour which could mean he wants to leave his solo career on a high and play a few shows for the money he deserves from the Smiths legacy. Before he retires. Moz has always been vocal, even written songs about getting off the stage when the time is right and not playing the geriatric rocker.
Rourke is in dire straits no doubt. He went so far as to sell his basses on E-Bay for some quick cash. It's no secret that Rourke danced with the H once upon a time. That is a drug that once divorced will always come back for some remember when sex. I am not saying Rourke is drinking or shooting himself up but he did sell his basses on E-Bay and we have seen the news about how he was broke at several points in his post-Smiths life. Please don't think I don't respect Rourke. He is am amazing bassist. Very rock solid and let's face it the guy is just cool. I would love to see Rourke playing with Moz again. Yes I love Moz's solo band (that part of this theory kills me).
Joyce can go to hell. Nuff said about that session drummer.
Marr. Marr is the one who really makes me find truth in this rumor. We heard him just 2 weeks ago or so on the BBC radio show dodging questions of the reunion. C'mon when have Moz or Marr EVER dodged that question. He almost confirmed it in the way he answered. Does anyone have a transcript of his respose to the question verbatim to share with us? Marr was the one who really set me off the first time with his answer. I felt then that this was a major possibility.
So adding all of this up I really do think there is credibility to this rumor this time. If the Smiths ever did reunite they would want to do it either at Glastonbury or Coachella so hearing the rumor was linking them to Coachella gave it another ounce of credibility in my mind. I do think that if they reunite MEN and Wembley have shows coming their way.
Personally I hope Moz continues solo but I think he should take a year or two and tour with Marr and Rourke. I can not see ever walking away from talent like Boz, Alain (who better come back) and Gary........
Just my gut feeling. Aren't they squishy?

It's easy to brush this aside as nonsense but this is Morrissey we're dealing with - a man as capable of surprise professional decisions as he is U-turns and side steps.
- The first big problem is obviously Andy and Mike. This does seem like one too big to overcome but the bad blood has mainly come from Morrissey in interviews over the past ten years, which he knows makes for entertaining reading. As with everything, we don't know the truth about Morrissey's personal standing with either Mike or Andy, or indeed Johnny.
- The legal issues were real, but now some time ago. I know that Mike Joyce was still pushing legally for settlement in 2002, especially at the Albert Hall gigs where there was apparently someone present trying to hand a writ to Morrissey from the crowd on Joyce's behalf, but that was 3 years ago. Anyone know what happened to the Moz-Joyce thing legally?
- It would make Morrissey and Johnny a fortune if they reformed. Even if it was only live appearances, they could charge massive sums and they are, Morrissey especially, financially minded. You can only imagine the contract negociations for getting the group to tour.... "So Andy, Mike, 10% of the Box Office okay?"
- Any reunion would mean an album wouldn't it? That would mean studio time together and no matter what the price I can't see that unless they had all completely kissed and made up.
- Anything is possible with Morrissey.
In short, who fucking knows? I'd say definately possible, even though it would be the same as finding Ian Curtis alive and well in Exeter cutting keys - completely unimaginable.
Bookie's odds? I'd say 30/1.

putting my reputation on the line
My credibility is about to be shot.
Last year, I was passed information about The Pixies, The Cure, Radiohead, and various other act playing at Coachella 2004 before the line-up had been announced. This morning, the very same contact sent me information saying that Jay-Z/Lincoln Park, Garbage, Bjork, Prince, and The Smiths have been confirmed for Coachella 2005. I was skeptical of this information, but decided to post the information becuase he would know better than anyone else.
It seems that this year he decided to completely fuck with me. It seemed to be good to be true and well, it was. I got played. I got scammed. To put it simply, I got completely fucked with. Interestingly, it was on same day they redid their website, announced when the line-up would be announced, and gave information about when tickets would go onsale (presale password is Gobi).
As I had said, this same contact, who I have always trusted and has never lied to me before, decided to fuck with me and my readers. This is someone who would definitely know the line-up. This is someone who hasn't ever passed on any information that was false before.
So please excuse my prior post (I especially apologize to Ambitious-Outsider whose heart I know I just broke). It was all a cruel joke. An outragous fabrication. A mean and nasty trick. None of those acts are scheduled to play the festival. I was told Coldplay was booked but I ain't trusting that fool anymore.
Anyway, sorry.............
