A Moz-spotting At Radiohead

Thanks to Paul for this story:

New York - Hammerstein Ballroom 8/26/97. About a minute or two before Radiohead came on my wife and I spotted Morrissey being ushered in. He passed about ten feet from where we were standing and all around there was a collective gasp. We lost track of him as the lights went down, but it looked like he was heading towards a VIP seating area where Marilyn Manson was seated.

From Jason, "...the Las Vegas venue is The Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel. On sale when? Unsure. We’ll see." And from Deanna, a link to the confirmation.

Los Angeles tickets...

Latest rumors

* Originating from the discussion board, the support band for the US tour - the band Elcka. In the recent Melody Maker interview Morrissey described them:

"They're astonishing. I went to see them recently and it was one of those gigs of a lifetime. One you never forget. They're really special. I wouldn't like to praise them because the press will hate them if I like them. Possibly. But that's the way the hamster wheel turns these days."

* From S. Davenport:

According to a friend of mine, Chrissie Hynde stated last night on some online chat that she and Morrissey are in the early stages of doing a song together for the new Pretenders album. That’s all I know, and I don’t know how accurate this is, or if it’s even true.

Aug 26 97 - Tuesday

Kalamazoo

Thanks to all those who reported that Ticketmaster is showing a date, Jason was the first: "The Ticketmaster Event Guide for Morrissey is now showing a date on September 23rd at the Kalamazoo State Theatre in Kalamazoo, Michigan." I don't think I've ever heard from anyone actually living in Kalamazoo, however.

Suedehead - The Best Of Morrissey and other promos

From Mailily:

Got the best of on Tuesday (promo copy). I includes all the singles but "Sing Your Life" and "Certain Peoople I Know". It adds "Tomorrow" and "Thats Entertainment". It comes in a case like the majority of the singles do. The sleeve is just black and folded in half. Similar to the Ask Me Ask Me Ask Me interview disc. Inside it gives the track listing... The disc is all black and just has the title on it. Also "Alma Matters" has a UK promo that has the same sleeve. It also comes in the plastic single packaging sleeve. It has promo only on it and the disc. The disc is black. "Maladjusted" also saw a promo release UK. It comes in a cardboard sleeve which is brown. It has a hole in the front so you can read the plain silver disc track listing. The cover of the Best of.. is going to be the one time "Glamorous Glue" sleeve. Due out now on Sept 8th.

A track listing from Jeff Pelletier:

advance listening CD "for promotional use only [EMI]
[# cdpp 0015]. 19 tracks. no rarities...

Suedehead/ Sunny/ Boxers/ Tomorrow/ Interlude/ Everyday/ That's Entertainment/ Hold On To Your Friends/ My Love Life/ Interesting Drug/ Our Frank/ Piccadilly Palare/ Ouija Board/ You're The One For Me Fatty/ We Hate It.../ Last Of The famous/ Pregnant/ November/ The More You Ignore Me...

High ranking in Tower chart

From Chris:

Maladjusted ranks #4 in Tower Records’ Top 1000 CDs. See www.towerrecords.com.

Chicago tickets on sale Sat., Ann Arbor on Thurs.

From Alison Olcott:

I just heard on the radio that tickets here go on sale at 10AM Saturday, and that the concert is, indeed, at the Aragon. I don’t think the DJ said whether or not they were through Ticketmaster, but I’m assuming they are.

From Aaron Schofield:

The Ann Arbor, MI Concert tickets go on sale August 28th.

Charts

Christian Arvidson was first to say that Maladjusted dropped from #8 to #31 in the UK charts this week.

From Jawn, Maladjusted appeared at #27 in France last week.

Tour Info

Cleveland and Minneapolis went on sale Saturday and Monday morning, respectfully. Thanks to Brian Cohen and Travis for the info, which I have updated in the tour section.

Aug 22 97 - Friday

Cleveland vs. Norfolk

There is some confusion concerning the Norfolk and Cleveland tour dates posted on Island's website. For now we will assume Cleveland is on the 21st.

*from John Hughes:

I think the Island site is mistaken, if there’s such a thing. The Moz Cleveland date IS the 21st, with confirmation from the venue (Lakewood Civic Center) and many print ads in our local music weeklies. The only thing I can figure is a mistype on Island’s part, or they’ve changed the date and haven’t told anyone in Cleveland.

Toronto - that was fast

I have heard ranges from 45 seconds, to 10 minutes, to it's not sold out yet. From Judy:

10:43 AM, Friday August 22nd.

The Toronto Moz show sold out in 45 seconds! I got fourth row centre, thank heavens.

A correction, rom Mona:

Massey hall holds approximately 2900 people, NOT 1050

Next single rumors

A rumor floating around this site, "Roy's Keen" will be the next single with b-sides, "Lost" and "The Edges Are No Longer Parallel"

An extra zero

From Jarvis:

I believe all-star mag meant 19,000 not 190,000 (which would have put Morrissey at the top of the charts).

A new Late Show story

Here is a new story, from Lisa.

New Discussion Boards

I have now added two more discussion boards for your pleasure. One for tour-related postings (thanks to Carson Bording for the idea) and one for merchandise-related posting (and thanks to The Comtesse DeSpair for this idea). Make your choice here. I am always open to new suggestions.

Aug 21 97

#61 on Billboard 200

Thanks to Q for this report from All-Star Mag. Look for improvement next week! {8/22 - figure should be 19,000} :

Also debuting next week is Morrissey’s latest, Maladjusted, released on Mercury, at No. 61 with more than 190,000 album sold in its first week.

Tour Dates on Island's site

Grant e-mailed to let us know that confirmation of the September tour dates can be found on Island Records Tour News page. There are some differences to what was reported on Modern Rock Live - it appears Norfolk, VA has been slated for Sept. 21, with Cleveland on the 23rd. Several venues have been listed also, check this site's tour section for the latest itinerary.

Vancouver info

From Heidi:

I’ve just spoken to a DJ at Z 95.3 in Vancouver, BC and he told me that Morrissey will be playing at the Orpheum Theatre (Smithe at Seymour) on Oct 1st (but you already know the date) .. but he didn’t tell me when tickets were going on sale (the concert isn’t announced yet) And he didn’t know whether the radio station was actually going to play Morrissey’s new single (they haven’t yet)...

...not sure about the date

Ticketmaster

From Mike Fidler, "I got these dates and cities off of ticketmaster: MORRISSEY: 30-SEP-97, NEW YORK, NY. Looks like he added another NY show..." We'll wait for more details.

From Mozz69, "Ticketmaster's daily ratings, based on database search requests, shows Morrissey as #20 in the top 25 tours , as of 1:30am EST. 08/21. just thought you might find that interesting." (*He's at #8 as of today.)

Top 10 in Sweden

From Christian Arvidson, "Today Morrissey's Maladjusted went from #28 to number #10 (!) on the Swedish album chart!!"

Letterman photos

Thanks to Ronnie for sending a couple scans, which I have added to his story.

Reports from "The Late Show"

From Jen, first in the standby line:

I just wanna say... I went to see Letterman... I camped out from Monday at 3 pm... and was deservedly first in line for stand by tickets...To make a long story short, we got to meet Moz and the band AND while waiting with our stand-by tix, a CBS employee came out to tell us that Letterman had apparently driven by in the middle of the night and saw us camping out and wanted to make sure we got in!! So he gave us tickets!! It was incredible and exciting and Moz and Co. never looked or sounded better. Of course, they did "Alma Matters", a wonderful little tease of what’s to come on the tour! (how embarrassing... I’m watching Letterman as I write this and can hear my own scream when he announces Morrissey as a guest... what a big mouth on me...)

from Sean Pugni:

I just returned from the Letterman taping. I was lucky enough to be in the third row. He played just one song, "Alma Matters". He didn’t talk to Letterman at all. In fact he left the theatre no more that five minutes after he finished the song. But, before the show he did spend quite a bit of time outside signing autographs for all the fans waiting. There were a lot of Morrissey fans that made it inside. There were huge ovations everytime Morrissey’s name was mentioned and especially when he came out.

and from Ronnie, this story (with photos)

San Francisco - another tour date

From Michelle Jouan, "Another date has been added to Morrissey’s Warfield show in San Francisco. He will also be playing there on the following evening (8 october 1997). Tickets onsale now."

Moz spotting on Mercury website

Thanks to Kobin Kendrick for this: "There’s a nice little picture of Morrissey on the Mercury web site"

Las Vegas - a warning

From Deanna:

Please, please, please... if you are planning on seeing Morrissey in Las Vegas on October 11th, call to reserve a hotel room now. The National Finals Rodeo (ick) will be here during that time, and rooms are almost impossible to get. As of today 8/19.. it may already be too late.

Aug 19 97

"The Late Show" Tonight

Reminder: set your VCRs. Anyone going down to the taping please report afterwards. This is actually very exciting to me, on a personal level — I have actually been a big fan of Letterman since before I even knew The Smiths or Morrissey existed, so I feel a circle being completed here. That's my story for today.

A Modern Rock Live story

Thanks to Ara for this excellent account of her call-in.

Toronto details

from Mundeep:

...tickets are something like $33 and $26, depending on where you sit. Massey Hall is a small venue located in the centre of the city. It is completely seated and somewhat posh. The capacity is 1050 people and the show starts at 8pm. Tickets on sale this FRIDAY, not Thursday.
