The Amboys

From Patrick:

The Amboys is a Baltimore band who have been doing a long list of shows here and just cut their first indie record. The lead singer, Max Lizarre, is a Moz afficiando and does many Smiths/Moz covers. I came across their website, and there are a couple of references. One is rather funny, about Lizarre's fued with another band called Fecal Consumption:

"In an interesting conversation based on the Lizarre/Fecal Consumption fued, a Baltimore radio disc jockey brought up the similar fued between the Cure and Morrissey and asked Lizarre how he would compare the two.

LIZARRE: Well, I would definitely want myself to be likened to Morrissey.

Q: Really?
LIZARRE: Yes. I definitely think he's much more talented. I like some of the Cure's stuff, but I think they're comparable to Fecal Consumption, at least when you're looking at it through the fued aspect. I think Moz has the better talent and therefore can be critical of them.

Q: So you liken yourself to Morrissey?
LIZARRE: Well, in this comparison. I don't think I have anywhere near the skill at lyrics that he has, or as melodious a voice. But I think he kicks the Cure's ass, and I kick F.C.'s ass."

The website itself is still being built, but the page with Lizarre's quips about F.C. are funny, and there is another Smiths reference about a cover of "Panic" Lizarre does.

'Morrisey' mentioned in Dennis Lehane book

From Scott:

In the 1997 book "Darkness, Take My Hand" by Dennis Lehane on pg. 207 his character is talking about alternative music and says:

"A lot of it is corporate bullshit, and a lot is overrated, don't get me wrong. I mean, explain Morrisey (note the one s!). But then you get a Kurt Cobain or a Trent Reznor and you say 'these guys are the real deal.'"

Is this guy really that insane?

"Interlude" liner notes

From Christine Freeland:

I recently bought Timi Yuro's The Voice That Got Away -- the best of part 2 -- and look what I found in the liner notes:

"
INTERLUDE: The title song from the movie of the same name, this was issued as a single in 1968 and also included on the superb "Something Bad On My Mind" album the same year - and although never a hit, it was the title which we received the most requests for inclusion on this second compilation. One of Timi's finest-ever recordings, this wonderful song was defiled a couple of years ago by some miscreant calling himself "Morrissey", dueting with someone called "Siouxie" : one has to ask why?"

FYI: this album is AMAZING!! and "Interlude" is perhaps the least appealing track! highly recommended that everyone (Moz fan or not) buy it!! very hard to find in the states, but I ordered it online at www.imvs.com or www.musicshop.co.uk (same company).

Everything on the server side looks stable for the time being, but learning from previous experience, that won't necessarily be the case tomorrow. So I've finally gotten a mailing list going in case the site does go down and I need to update all of you on its status. And if there is anything else significant going on (there hasn't really been anything in the last 6 months or so) maybe I'll use it also - we'll see.

You can sign on or sign off anytime at the e-mail section of the site.
