Johnny Marr "Walking Down Madison" demo mp3 - full download

From Derick Greene:

The only information available on this track is that is was Johnny Marr's recording of the song which eventually became Kirsty MacColl's "Walking Down Madison." (4:21, 7.96MB mp3) The final released version of the song credits both Marr and MacColl for songwriting (it can be assumed MacColl's input was primarily vocal/lyrics, which are absent in this version) and that the track was eventually produced by Steve Lillywhite, though it is uncertain whether he was involved at this point of the recording process.

My original intention was to release this as a CD only, and that a CD version (with artwork) will still be available for those who want it in that format for $6 US (shipping included) and to email me ([email protected]) for details. My sincere apologies for allowing such embarrassingly unnecessary conversation to develop on a website which is truly a great resource for those of us which treat it as such and not a playground for bored, unimaginative minds.

Minor tour details from Boz

Thanks to Joseph for the forward from Boz:

re new gigs, we'll probably play something old, something new, something borrowed and something red!

And from Joe (a different one):

Hi, this is very insignificant, but I received a short message from Boz earlier today [8/18], and he said that he did not know the dates or places yet for any of the upcoming US shows.

Site stuff

I am glad Derick was able to look beyond the few people who flamed him for his sidenote in the previous news item. And listening to the full track, I for one am relieved he did not just take the track and disappear, regretting he ever brought it up in the first place.

I suppose it's time for me to reset my feelings on the different means of discussion available on this site. For the most part, I really enjoy reading the different viewpoints but every so often there will be one or two individuals who will come along and clearly abuse the anonymity given to them by the boards (and the internet in general). It is obvious some people are just looking for attention and as I've said before it is best to just ignore them as they will eventually go away. None of this is new or unique to this site. Also, there are a few who have posted intentionally under the names of other contributors - something I consider a disrespect to the site and as I will now have to look for and delete the messages, in general a waste of my time.

Overall, however, it is my feeling that everyone has a right to say what they want. I just hope no potential contributors are turned off by the actions of a few. I am currently working on implementing a better system for adding comments / moderation, but it will be a while since I only have maybe one or two hours per day to work on it.

* On another note, sometime near the end of next week my ISP is upgrading its lines and this involves an ip address change and perhaps some downtime (hopefully only a day at most). Afterwards, there should be some increase in the site's speed and stability (no guarantees though).
