From Jose:
In the
11-21-99 issue of the Los Angeles Times, the band Autumns
cite Moz as an influence.
"Autumns
Play 'Simon Says'
excerpts:
...High-school
Brit-pop fans Kelly, Frank Koroshec (guitar) and Eric
Crissman (drums) obsessed over the Cocteaus as well as the
Stone Roses and the Smiths. To them, the music was more
innovative--and melodic--than the more popular hard rock and
grunge of the time. "Morrissey's level of wit was
unmatched over here," says Kelly, whose fingers and
wrists are laden with rings and bracelets. "And the
Cocteau Twins is so entrenched in high-end, poetic
references. That's completely absent from what was going on
here."
...Judging from the two originals on the band's current
three-song EP, "Boy With the Aluminum Stilts"
(which also includes a version of "Garlands"), the
members appear to have succeeded in evolving musically.
Sure, the sonics are lush and dreamy--and Kelly sounds a bit
like Morrissey on the title track--but there is a sense of
modernity amid the classic melodic melancholy. (For

The Autumns are truly an exceptional band. They play this Tuesday at the Troubadour in West Hollywood. I encourage all fans of beautiful, heart-breaking songwriting to attend.

The Autumns are a very important band. They are still in cult underground status, which means it's the best time to know of them. I'm sure they'll make it big soon; their new album was produced by Cocteau Twin Simon Raymonde, which means their profile might just get bigger. Part shoegazer, part indie, these guys are destined for the books. No other band that has graced my ears have affected me the same way since The Smiths. There new album comes out on Feb. 2, and they have 3 other CDs out. Get to know these guys. I swear, you won't regret it.
