November 5, 1999

Dear Howie,

Hope you're not missing Ilene too much?

I thought you might like to know that "SACK" have supported me on this European tour, and are going down fantastically well. They will also be with me at the following US dates, and are well worthy of your inspection.

11/12 San Francisco, CA - Maritime Hall
12/12 Fresno, CA - Rainbow Ballroom
14/12 San Diego, CA - Cox Coliseum
15-16/12 Los Angeles, CA - Palladium
18/12 Ventura, CA - Ventura Theater
19-20/12 Las Vegas, NV - House of Blues

Best Wishes,

Morrissey

Still no East Coast dates? What is he trying to do to us?

Why is his personal letter up on that site?
If it is at all possible, I would like to make a request to view some of his old bank statements and shopping lists as well.
just in a weird mood today, don't mind me.

What an excellent gift to wake up to! Thank you Morrissey-solo for being so current! I am glad to have checked into the site, I was a little weary of him cancelling the Dec. 11 date b/c of recent trends and specific commentary on this site however it sounds like he is going to be there. I am thrilled!
Morrissey, Morrissey, Morrissey, Morrissey, Morrissey, Morrissey - ahhh love, the sweet tickles inside my belly.

Morrissey is right (isnīt he always?...) and SACK are a brilliant support for him. Surprisingly, they donīt have a record company, but this can happen even to the most glorious ones as we know. Iīve bought their latest "Butterfly effect" and it is such a stunning album. I deeply hope they will return to Germany for a solo tour and iīd like to know what other Morrissey fans think about their music. So how about a poll?

What is he trying to do to us west coast fans? The Palladium shows start at 6:30!! Is Goldenvoice unaware of the mad L.A. traffic during that time, and that people work? I'm gonna have to sneak out early.

what??? The LA shows can't start at 6:30. The doors probably open at 6:30, which means Sack will come on at 7:30 and Morrissey at 9pm or so. Sack is really good, by the way.

Morrissey is needed in NYC! Can someone talk
to him about this, we should be listed on that
letter. I saw him 2 years ago at Hammerstein
Ballroom, amazing. Anyone else there that night?
It doesn't matter we need a new show from him
NOW!

1) Can anyone describe Sack's sound?

2) I can't believe some of you Californians are complaining about Morrissey's upcoming shows; with the amount of dates he's done/is doing in Cali, you've no reason to quibble over start-times. We East Coast fans should be the ones to complain!

Actually, the shows DO start at 6:30 pm (per all annoucements). Many small venues in LA (and other towns?) start earlier sometimes due to a "club" of some kind which will be at the same venue later that evening, though I don't know if this is the case with the Palladium shows. I saw The Beautiful South once in Hollywood. They came on late as usual and had to stop playing 3/4 of the way through their set because the "Disco Night" at the same club was to begin at 10:00 pm.

Interesting that Morrissey still writes dates in the British format (day/month) rather than the American format (month/day) - even in a letter to an American (Klein), and having lived in L.A. for a while. Curious. Is he clinging to his Englishness?

Also, in regards to the Moz vs. Morrissey, let us not forget that it is MOZ written across Jake's belly on the "The More You Ignore Me.." single and not MORRISSEY (though perhaps that is due to the width of Jake's belly).

Apparently there are just not enough Mexicans fans on the East Coast. Moz is sick and tired of all you panty waist, Depeche Mode lovin' cry babies. (With the exception of Niko and Dobbs who happen to be quite the opposite). Too bad so sad, this should be something more to cry about.

Ummm Morrissey, why don't _you_ get a record deal first. Then you can worry about trying to get SACK signed.

Thank you and good night.

Ah...I see what he's doing for Sack. Very nice of him to take a bunch of unknowns and find them a record deal.

What better person than Howie? He'll lick his boots and come back for seconds.

To answer some of the questions:

RE Sack : They are Irish from Dublin. They look funny, they sound good, a bit like Gene I'd say. I didn't like their whole set but songs like "Your Downfall" are very very good... I think Maxi, their singer, is a bit exagerrated not less because he is supporting Morrissey (and we all realise the pressure!!)I think it's brilliant that Moz is promoting them, esp. since he hasn't got a record deal himself (does he really need one?)

RE Morrissey using the European (rather than American) date format : This sort of things one doesn't get rid of easily, elbowless. Morrissey is 40 and he's only been living in the States for 3 years. It takes much much longer than that to get used to all the little everyday things... Plus, I must say, that despite what he might say about England, his gigs over here are so very English, you'd think he'd never left this country. And before you start shouting at me for being chauvinistic, let me tell you: I'm not English!

I didn't think the comment about the date format was brainless.. Especially, considering alot of other posts I've seen around here.I thought it was a good observation.. so there..

CORONA, can you explain what was that that you said? i didnīt understand a bit of your irony..
whatīs your problem with DM fans huh?

The date detail isnīt that cute?
I īve always liked this format..thatīs how we in spanish write too.
East Coast brothers..I totally agre with you
ohhIīd love to have an excuse to go to NY ..this is very very fishy ...why he havenīt any date there, pretty much the same if he loves so much México why he doesnīt come here?
Well I wonder.....

Describe Sack's sound? Hmmm... have you ever heard 'the Smoking Popes'? That is to say in so many words unoriginal/boring. And yes, yes I know some of you will come to defend the Smoking Popes, but really why make such a display of bad taste.

Spaceboy
Space - Sat, Nov 20, 1999 at 17:12:14 (PST) | #27

yes, the singer of Sack sounds exactly like Josh of the Smoking Popes which is nauseating to say the least. And that's the reason Moz likes them, because when the Smoking Popes released Born to Quit critics made Smiths comparisons, especially in regards to Morrissey's voice (I don't hear it.) The singer of Sack incorporates a lot of gestures into his performance--he even pointed at me which made me feel quite special. Moz ended up giving me bitchy looks which made me feel even more special (where is a tomatoe when you need one?) How nice of Moz to put in a good word for Sack to Howie Klein. If they get signed Moz will ask for his commission, trust me.

guess who no longer loves you

all us hick fans down here in the steamy south deserve our chance to cry a little, too.
I remember in ninety two, old mugsy set a date for here in birmingham, and cancelled the same night to appear on saturday nite live!
of course, it's great to have him at least SOMEWHERE in the states, but I am to scared to get all the way to sanfransissy just to have him cancel. can't he at least go to atlanta again?
