I think it was between 'Because of my poor Education' and 'Life is a Pigsty' Morrissey said: "Jean Charles de Menezes, we will never forget, we will never forget" or similar sentiment. Of course 22nd July is the fourth anniversary of his at Stockwell Underground station. That station is just one stop away from Brixton.

Morrissey homenageia Jean Charles em show no Reino Unido

I would like to thank the artist, as well as the entire staff of this tour for this pertinent homage. I visited London two years ago and could notice some remarkable aspects of its culture: despite the moral discomfort found in any metropolitan area, we can see how Englishmen can still extend attention and solidarity to foreing people.

Living in Rio de Janeiro and working with less-income populations from Brazil, I certainly experience this discomfort on another scale. State/Government violence is one of many daily aspects we have to deal with.

This is why I recognize the importance of Mr. Morrissey political act: no matter where you are, life is a moral value which will always have to be defended.

all's well that ends
the official count. 78 shows. 19 countries.

by some amazing feat of faith and perseverance

we have made it to the end of the years of refusal tour.

not without a few speed bumps of course. but as far as i know, there were no arrests and no trips to the emergency room. not to say injuries were not sustained, but a few scrapes and bruises are to be expected. ( that being said, i haven’t heard the full account of last night’s end of tour blow out, which ended for me by man-handling certain band members into the hotel lift to protect them from our rage filled taxi driver ....)

the last 2 shows were great. i personally think the set we’ve been doing is pretty challenging for the audience, especially for those who are not hard core fans. but from the people i spoke to after the show it seems we held our own and then some. a couple of glamorous moments were had as well. at the after show on tuesday night i had the pleasure of spending a few minutes speaking with stella mccartney and liv tyler, who were both very beautiful and very sweet. and last night, we were introduced by one of my musical heroes, chrissie hynde. that’s pretty damn hard to top.

last night, m asked us what our favorite show of the tour was. for me, our 2 nights at the barrow-lands in glasgow stand out, as well as the whole german run. maybe bremen?

warsaw was quite good as well. so, i guess i don’t really know. in the few weeks i’ll poke around youtube and see what’s out there. my brain is fuzzy and my body is worn down but my heart is buzzing in anticipation of getting home and reuniting with my family.

Morrissey jealous of neck brace - NZCity / BangShowbiz

Morrissey was jealous when Johnny Marr had to wear a neck brace.

Former Smiths guitarist Marr was involved in a car crash when he was in the band – which was fronted by Morrissey - and was given the support to wear when he went to hospital.

He revealed: "I have never spent a full night in hospital. I crashed a BMW into a wall when I was in The Smiths - even though I couldn't actually drive at the time. I did my back and neck in pretty badly, but checked out after a few hours. I wore a neck brace - Morrissey was very envious."

One of The Smiths most iconic records is ‘There Is A Light That Never Goes Out’, which features the lyrics, “If a double-decker bus crashes into us, to die by your side is such a heavenly way to die. And if a ten tonne truck kills the both of us. To die by your side, well, the pleasure, the privilege is mine.”

Marr, 45, now leads a healthy lifestyle, and keeps in shape by running.

The musician – who plays guitar for The Cribbs - explained: "I'm pretty healthy. People think that I live a rock 'n' roll lifestyle, but I've either missed doing all that stuff or I've done it and can't remember.

"I got into running in the early 90s. Now, wherever I am in the world, I just put on my hoodie and run for 20 miles."

The HMV store in Queens Road Southend on Sea that was featured in the video clip for "Everyday Is Like Sunday" is to close - at the the time of filming the store was owned by indie and second hand record retailers Golden Disc - who still have a shop in the same street a couple of doors down! Check it out before it's gone!

American idol - The Guardian

18 July 2009

Meanwhile, artists who once stared down from Flowers' bedroom wall turn up to pay homage: the Cure's Robert Smith, David Bowie, the Pet Shop Boys, even Morrissey (the latter having apparently recovered after a starstruck teenage Flowers, waiting on his table in a Las Vegas restaurant, attempted to deliver a heartfelt eulogy with his mushroom pizza and was removed by a bodyguard for his trouble).

Have to admit, was not paying too much attention, as I was looking at Eli's new haircut (has he got a new part in another Shane Meadow's film?). There was a conversation in the Woolpack about things not going together...like Morrissey and a double bacon burger. Something like that. Caught me unawares, as I thought things like this only happened on Coronation Street and Springwatch!
